Looking for drum backing app. Want something that has slow jazz, maybe some funk and rock too. I don't want got create the beats myself at all. I want something with the beats already programmed. All I want to have to mess with is tempo.

Thanks for any recommendations!

DrumJam. A no-brainer for your specific needs.

So, I bought that app and I couldnt find any preset jazz track?

Where is it? This app really is confusing to me. it looks like a lot of programming which i didnt want at all

Post

Yeah, but other than that it's perfect for your specific needs :-)

It actually doesn't require programming- you can just load a preset and hit the play button in the upper right.
The other area, in the lower left, is used to load instruments and let you play along, more or less.

So basically, I just wasted $8??? There is no jazz preset, right?

Crap. How stupid I feel! I pissed away $12 today trying to find what I'm looking for. My own fault. I shoulda checked it out before just trusting the 2nd poster.

Oh boo hoo. If you can't get jazz out of this app, you're probably better off buying jazz drums wav-files.
And there are rock and funk presets.
And no programming needed.
There is even midi clock sync to accompany your tempo needs.

DrumJam IS probably the best app you can find for this....no, there aren't any "jazz" settings....but you can drag the kit pieces into whatever formation you want and change the frequency or how many times each piece will sound off in a loop....I think it's just 4/4 time...I haven't found a way to change it to 7/8 or 3/4...but a good versatile tool...it's as close as you are going to get---just play with it a while.
Rock On!

I saw something today, different drummer, that states that it is for the purpose you described. Also, in the recent sweet water ios video he talked about a drum app that just played beats, no programming. I think drum jam is not what you need for this purpose, you're looking for more drum kit, not percussion, correct? I use drum jam a ton, and have used it live, but it was filling in a little percussion on "let's get loud" at a wedding a few weeks ago, not instead of a drummer. Another option would be something like loopy and you could load your own loops in, plenty of drum loops easily available online.

You idiot, I just wasted my life savings of $8 or $12 on this stupid recommendation.
Because of you I lost my house, my wife left me and my dog bit me, how could you do this to me, what on this green earth did I do to you...

Hold on, that's a nice preset on Drumjam...
Wait, thats cool that you can do that in Drumjam...
Interesting way for that on Drumjam...
Hold on there BMoore, I'll get back to you.... :D

Oh, also, if the original poster is still reloading this, irealb will probably be to your liking as well. I think every person on here has bought an app or 15 that looked promising but doesn't get used much. If it helps, your $12 supported some cool software developers, and if it had been a program on your computer, you could have blown more than $12 on something useless. I believe many on here identify with that too. Check out irealb though, backing tracks including drums, and you can buy extra style packs and such. I believe you can mute the piano and bass if you don't need them. Plus, downloading charts from their forum is a breeze, as well as making your own.

Finally, one tip, check youtube, iosmusician, iosmusicandyou, sonic Touch, all good resources for finding out more about apps to see if they meet your needs first. Good luck!

Yeah. irealB is definitely cool. Thanks! I love how it's so easy to import thousands of charts at once. Some of the jazz beats are cool too.

What was the other drum app you were referring to in your previous post?

Thanks!

It's all good...

The "pissing away of $12 to find what I'm looking for" meant that I had tried a few other apps before that one too.

Like I said, it was my own fault... no big deal... live and learn. I coulda youtubed it first, but I saw the recommendation and just jumped on it.

There was one in the app store called different drummer which states its intention to be used live as a backing track. Also, sweetwater does a weekly iOS video podcast, they're on YouTube, and he talked about an app that played preprogrammed beats, I just looked it up, it's called drumbeats +. Episode 19, on YouTube, and he demonstrates it, so it looks like Obbie worth watching to see if it meets your needs.

My recommendation may be a little unorthodox, but I think in the long run, it might work well for your needs. Do some Google searching for GM MIDI drum loops in the style you are wanting. After you buy them, store them in a good file manager app (like, iFiles for instance). Use your GM Midi sequence player and instrument of your choice, and export the loops at the tempo you desire. Then you can import them into your project.

If you use one of the all-in-one apps, like Beatmaker 2, (or whatever app you prefer that imports midi), as your main app, you can simply import the MIDI straight into the app, choose the drums you want to use, and adjust tempo and other settings as desired. :-)

Benefits:

* Midi data is SMALL! You can store an entire library within your iPad without making a dent in your available memory.
* You have several choices of apps that will do what you are wanting to do.
* Lots of Free loops available.

Check out these links as starters for what you are wanting (I just googled jazz midi drum loops):

Hope this helps! :-)
