The elimination of copy protection of promorional / limited time / whatever software offers, TOTALY MAKES NO SENSE. They are essentially giving away their work for free to you, and you are moaning about taking 10 seconds to register it...

Be grateful or DON'T USE IT, if it bothers you so much!
Well, the copy protection is not bothering me, I got the key and registered it. I was thinking about all the people still waiting for their email with sn. But you're right, they've made it free for limited time only, though it would be really hard for me to pay for something now, that was free few days ago...
Also - it's Waves after all, sound quality of their plugins is undisputted, so not expecting enormous demand for free plugin would be insane ;) they should prepare for this, knowing how it ended for other companies (MiniMoog rings a bell?)
standalone wrote:The Waves installer is just 2,63 MB and the only plugin that it downloads is the one that is going to be installed. They also install their license center and the shell that manages all their plugins. That's their system and it makes sense for them because they have dozens and dozens of different products.
Online installer doesn't count, especially when their servers were hammered. I like to have all my plugins installers backed up on hdd, just in case I needed to reinstall/repair installation with internet gone. Also offline installers are more solid. and please tell me one, single, serious advantage of the shell system?

I know we are complaining about free software, but ffs it's not that we're not grateful - we are, the plugin (for those who were lucky enough to get the license yet) is really nice, but the fact that it's free doesn't automatically give them the allowance to smack us in the face with their fist.

Still no email and on the last day. Wonder what happens if they don't get round to anyone after 26th?

I guess they're still too busy sending out emails for paid products to deal with the freebies. I understand that they have to sell products, but it's not good business to hook someone and then start selling them something before they release the bait.

You said it better than I, and with about 90% less words :tu:

Just got my code finally..

Found this part a little odd (more marketing crap in the email)
We also invite you to take advantage of these truly amazing Cyber-Monday-only plugin deals.
That's odd.. because I got the exact same line of BS for their "Black-Friday-only" sale, and the prices are the exact same in both emails.. So clearly the sale wasn't 1 day only..

I can't wait to see this registration/install process..

Just got another marketing e-mail from them announcing last-chance. THAT server appears to be working just fine.

I applied for it Saturday got an email straight away Saturday saying I will get a serial but the server is too busy to send one yet. Still no serial 4pm Monday.

I don't mind them sending me marketing emails in return for the free plugin they are a business after all but if I don't get the free plugin then I've been scammed.

Once they have your email they send out two marketing emails to you each week. Been getting them since I demoed some waves plugs months ago.

You may take your info for granted but I dont.
Use a free spam collecting account (hotmail, google mail, etc) for deals.

Just got mine and went through the long process but seems to be fine now. You have to download the v9 pack and then just select the license thing and the louder knob to install

Post

This seems like a hell of a let of effort to get a free plug.

+1 this is ridiculous. I have enough and I didn't manage to get any download yet. Do I reckon correctly that I would have to install all the waves stuff, to get this little bugger?

That's far from the point now aint it.
Not really, if you use a throwaway email then you've lost very little. 'Free' is very rarely that - there's always something you have to give up to get something 'free', and an email address is certainly very little.
