Looking forward to hear more from it! Interesting synth for sure.
Just scratching my head about the 'Buy Sounds' button in the UI.
Is it common now that devs put ads in the synths (nothing else is it for me)?
What are you guys thinking about it?

The latest version of Alchemy features the same idea (inspired by IK AT3, no doubt). Luckily, Camel Audio listened to the howl of users and made it hideable…DirkJ wrote:Just scratching my head about the 'Buy Sounds' button in the UI.

Not new. Imageline already had this for many years now. In the patch browser window is an "online" category to directly purchase patches within each plugin (Morphine, Toxic Biohazard, Drummax...) - some online patches are free, some are not.Spitfire31 wrote:The latest version of Alchemy features the same idea (inspired by IK AT3, no doubt). Yep, I really really hate this - right slap bang in the middle of the GUI. I know it's only a small thing but it would bug me every time I look at it - puts me off even contemplating this synth and lowers my opinion of Tone2. I wouldn't have a problem with it being a menu option somewhere or a 'feature' you could hide (hopefully it is) but staring you in the face every time you open up the GUI? No thanks.DirkJ wrote:Just scratching my head about the 'Buy Sounds' button in the UI.

If this is a thing that bugs you i simply don't get it...dexterbella wrote:Yep, I really really hate this - right slap bang in the middle of the GUI. I have used Rayblaster a lot during the Beta test and doing presets (+ audio demo) but i almost totally ignored this.
To me this looks a bit like some people just want to find anything they could use to give a bad reputation at Tone2 again but of course i don't want to imply this purpose here.
Personally i could live without that link in the menu but i also don't have a real problem with it. BTW if you click on that link it will open a dialog box that asks if you want to open the Tone2 website or not so you will not open the website by accident.

If someone mentions that this would force him maybe not to try the synth and that it lowers his opinion of a company than it's a quite strange opinion for my taste.zvenx wrote:I actually haven't notied the buy link so far in the posted video. To me it seems at least it's a secure way to reach their sounds page. It's not like it's a nag screen...

I noticed this thing in Iris it's in the ? menu. Since it's there it's okay with me I like knowing whats available in the sounds department for a synth. I think in a way it's a selling point.
Rayblaster has my interest. I would be happy to buy it if it's reasonably priced and brings something interesting to the table. I don't think the buy new sounds would prevent me from enjoying using it.
This buy new sounds seems to be related to a trend in software becoming internet based.
iCloud for Adobe Creative Suite.
iTunes..
Video streaming.
It's taking hold. Making content providers money, but perhaps cmmericalizing the use of computers (sad), and bringing the initial price of software down, because in the case of software with a limited user base, to recoup development costs with first user buys maybe isn't possible anymore given the number of competing products out there.
Look at any category of plugin or software tool, and you can find pretty quickly up to 10 different companies each with their own version of the same tool. This of course pushing the initial selling pricepoint downwards.
I just went through this experiment with Trash 2, and found this out..
I think I'd rather subscribe to a companies software that have a history of good support and who develop their offerings at a fair and sane pace.
Service, development, maintaining the tools through OS updates and improving the tools to take advantage of inproved hardware..
These things to me taken together seems like a basis for the business model that is being developed, the buy new sounds idea is something that seems to belong here. Sustainable development through additional income sources resulting in value increases for developers and users.
Sometimes I buy sounds as a way of infusing my chosen companies with funds to further encourage development of the tools I already own and pave the way for new spins on the present tools.
But I do hate blatant adverts in my software and therefore would hope that any synths with these types of buy sounds elements keep them grafically low profile. Like the ? in Iris is fine with me..

My intention wasnt to make Tone2 look bad for sure,
just wanted to give feedback, so the devs might think about it.
I just wanted to point out an annoying thing/trend(at least for me),
which i hope doesnt make it in more products (of any developoer).
Putting such a thing into the gui is just advertisement,
and it makes me feel like i'm using a shareware version... at full price.
Sonic-wise i'm very curious and looking forward for the audio-demos.

Wouldnt be so bad if it would be 'hidden' somewhere in a help/sub-page,Ingonator wrote:Exactly.osiris wrote:To me it seems at least it's a secure way to reach their sounds page. It's not like it's a nag screen...

i am sorry if i sounded a bit harsh but having tested the synth there were some more serious issues than this we had to take care of...
Some see it as advertisement, others will maybe find it helpful and others like me almost totally ignored it until you pointed it out (and i have looked at that GUI for a quite long time now...).

bought tone2 Suarus and I thought I liked Oxium for realness but this thing beats me, the difference between analog synths and soft synths sure does become blurry with synths like this around, might not be as good as diva but I prefer it any day of the week since it has little on the processor side and the sound is incredible, If I do buy an analog synth it would probably be a novation mini nova now for £300 because this has put an end to the debacle once and for all for me. Good one Tone2 especially with the key file protection, this is my personal fave for analog warmth and oscillator tone, but Oxium replaces any kind of juno or roland emulation on the other side of things too, so thanks

Rayblaster could indeed do some nice analog emulations but it could do much more.
I am just up posting a link to the official audio demo.
