I haven't tried it either, but having listed to 8 of the demos on Vimeo, I understand why it's free

Seriously though: try Renoise! If you feel the temptation of the tracker paradigm, but are turned off by the convoluted ways of the oldschool... that's your pick. It's both retro and super modern at the same time. Totally a tracker for the 2010s. Try it try it try it :D

I'm in the market for a new keyboard and noticed that M-Audio (Avid) is stuffing their boards with a sequencer entitled Ignite.

Looks quite nice actually, a instant sketchboard kind of thing. German-engineered and all. ; ) Won't matter much on my buying decision though, as it says it doesn't support Vista that I'm running.

AND it's a fairly un-hobbled demo (except for the lack of ASIO support which could be a problem for a few).

Thanks for sharing that. The description on the site sounds really intriguing. But is only at the beta stage -- m-audio keyboard owners are told to wait for it or volunteer to beta test. Seems to require a new version m-audio keyboard as well.

Mulab (although it still doesn't support multithreading to my grief. Jo's following this thred as I see, please correct me if I'm wrong) Otherwise ace DAW, even the free version
Orion - the best pattern based thing out there imho.
Reaper... Well, actually even kitten know about Reaper nowadays :hihi:
And if you don't mind trackers try Psycle. Latest version is ace. Fully modular, multi outs for vst, multithreading supportet, up to 24/192 khz iirc, free (as in beer). Lots of included modules are cool too, esp fm synths.

Jo's working on a multi-core version -- MUlab 5 -- and in fact is looking for beta testers -- PM him if interested

I'm using the opportunity to plug my software.
:)

My program has been mentioned three times in this thread already, but since it's 10 times as original as Renoise, which has been mentioned probably 20 times, I'll mention Radium again.
  • * Aren't really popular (check)
    * Doesn't have a common editing flow? (check)
    * Open source (check)
Radium is a tracker where you don't have to remember hex values, and you see and edit the waveforms directly in the editor, and it's tickless, and generally very limitless and featurefull.

Also, Sweet Sixteen is a kinky little thing: http://www.ronimusic.com/sweet_16.htm

Some free MIDI software on the site as well.

Edit:

There's actually quite a long list of sequencers etc over at Wikipedia, go check it if you're interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_MI ... sequencers

Man, I love Brussels. The best bars in the world. And with every beer having its own glass? I am in hippy heaven every time. Do you ever sit outside that bar that is opposite the biggest camera shop in the world? And the food... drink in ten bars and eat ten times a day... Belgium is amazing. My new g/f lives in the north. Gonna visit there next year. And the women.........

Duvel? Tastes shit, but boy does it get you there. Wherever 'there' is.

Back on topic.

This guy is a major talent. A contemporary of Aphex Twin.
Writes his own sequencer. But, no, you can't buy it.

Sorry for the tease, but still, it is good to know what is out there. Blame him not me.
Maybe if enough KVR'rs would club together we could do a group buy. It's boutique stuff so count me in for a hundred quid. But I don't think he wants to share..

F******* sick s***!
He really is one funky Mother******.

He even tells you what coding environment he programmed it in.
Super Collider, I think it was.

Any way, the cheeky bugger has re-designed his site and I don't think he gives any info out on it any more. Maybe if someone mailed him he might give some details.

I have a back up of his old site somewhere with screenshots of his sequencer.
It looked pretty nifty. Search Kvr, it is here somewhere - it's where I learned about it years ago.

If we could just get ten people to chip in a 100 quid, then that is a grand. Pretty good money for just sharing, especially if those concerned could be trusted not to torrent it or give it to mates. Then again, some people have no price and can't be bought. But what if we had a hundred people to give a oner?

Every man has his price. Too bad it will never happen.

Btw, Jo, I'm going to check out MuTools again. It's about that time...

God bless the good ship KVR and all that sail with her :D .

Cylob had other screen shots up at his site. Maybe I'll dig it out.

But, it wasn't and never will be for sale.
Oh well, Ableton is probably better anyway.

His music is off the scale though. No wonder Richard James signed him to Rephlex.

He probably used his own DAW to make this too.

One of my favourite artists and one no one knows about.
God, how cool am I? Loving music that no one else has ever heard of?

:o

Then again, over 40,000 hits. Welcome to the internet age. We have finally arrived.

Is someone going to contact him? Or do I have to do it myself?
If I did, what would be your top three questions?

Mine would be:
1: What colour socks do you wear?
2: Is that DAW you created for real?
3: If so, where can I buy it and how much does it cost?
