Hi Cantabilies,
I have been using Cantabile for about a year and I love it. I did have problems with banks in some VSTs but managed to at least get them working.I use VB3 from GSI and have finally figured out how to interpret instructions found here and at Cantabiles site to make them work.

I was stumbling on the "rename" function. I was using "save program as" instead even though the directions clearly said what do do. I only mention it in case it helps someone else. I could not find "rename" because it was in the built in editor as opposed to the plug in editor which I was using. Now I have the edited or new programs in the brackets. I am just now relearning the program organizer.

Along the same lines now I have programs and banks in various folders. Where should the "Banks and Presets" folder be located for best results?

I was storing programs and Banks in a folder C:\BANKS. I also was storing them, in my VST folder which is C:\VST\VB3. This is where all of my VSTs reside. It kind of evolved and I am afraid to change it right now with several gigs coming up.

Just recently I read that Banks and Presets should be in a banks and preset folder under My Cantabile Files under My Documents.I think that all of these locations work. Is there an advantage to one location?

The only obstacle now is that the first time a subsession loads a bank it tries to load the original VB3 bank and not one of my edited banks. I then select my edited bank and am OK after that.

Any thoughts? Sorry for such a long post.
Thanks for all your help,

Hi Cantabilites,
I am still trying to understand the Banks function although I seem to be able to use it somewhat. One VST I am using is GSIs VB3. For experimentation I have searched on my computer for any banks for VB3 have eliminated them ALL . There are no .fxb files for VB3 left on my computer. I even eliminated the ones in the recycle bin.I have other .fxb files but I recognize them as being for other VSTs. I am only using one VB3 Bank file and I have stored it on my USB stick for safe keeping.

After I reboot my computer and start the ONLY session I use I find That the Bank seems to Load properly (to my surprise). This is not necessarily a BAD thing!

What prompted this experiment was trying to save an edited bank. What I found was that if I used "save bank as.." and then selected the SAME bank name in the folder list (by highlighting it)the computer would tell me I already had a file of that name and ask if I wanted to replace it. I would reply "Yes". However the bank changes would not be included.

If I follow the same procedure but type in the same name (as opposed to highlighting it on the listed banks)after be asked If I wanted to replace it and replying "Yes" the file would be saved with the changes.

I only need ONE bank of sounds for VB3. However on some of my other programs I may want more than one bank so I am trying to understand the command better.

One last thing... the VB3 plug (like others) displays the current selected bank in its title bar BUT not when the sub-session calls it (even though it IS the bank being used.It only displays the Bank name if you "Open Bank". This same behavior is also exhibited my the Built in Editor. I think this contributes greatly to confusion about which bank is actually being used.

I hope my information is accurate.Any comments will be appreciated.

Hi.

...not particularily about your details but in general I think the best organization could be based on external media like a USB stick or external SSD.

Probably the ultimate solution would be one medium containing software and/or your plugins and setups and maybe a dongle to overcome machine dependent licensing schemas.

In other words ultimate portability... of course just my 2ct so far... :)
Best regards, TiUser
...and keep on jamming...
