Well ive narrowed it down to purchasing one of these and I would like to know what the differences are between the two. Would also like to know which one everyone here prefers. Im using lots of MIDI Virtual Instruments and will not be recording vocals or audio.

Do you really, really, really,REALLY want to start another thread like this.

In my opinion both Cubase AND Live are excellent for MIDI.

I will not choose one over the other as the strengths of both nullify each other.

Sorry that didn't answer your request, I expect there will be more to follow.

And what are you doing with them? What kind of music you make and how you work will have some impact on which flow you find more productive.

im using Fl Studio and the damn thing keeps a poppin and a hoppin and a cracklin. Yes ive installed the ASIO drivers and it doesn't help that much with this goofy program..I have the light version of ableton that came with that midi keyboard thing that i bought last week and it doesnt make all that shit ass static noise that fruity loops makes. Been looking into the Cubase Artist or even the "entire package" for that matter since the demo didnt start crackling either. I just cant use Fl studio anymore its really annoying when i have to keep switching the drivers from primary to asio to get the poppin to stop. And as far as what kind of music i do, i really dont know what kind of music it is.. :?

probably time for a new computer once again i guess..................... :(

I would suggest you save your money for now and learn how to use what you have already got, FL and live lite will serve you well until you get in to it a bit more. You should be using AISO drivers for VSTi plugs, either the drivers that came with your sound card or AISO4all (google it), that should solve your cracklings issues (don't have the latency too low)

Thanks man i will definitely take your advice into consideration. I would like to keep using FL because of its ease of use and always have a blast using that thing called the "Step Sequencer" thats bundled with the software. I wonder if theres some kind of plug-in thats like the step sequencer in FL that i could use in Ableton?

This.

Stay away from whatever AISO rubbish he is recommending though.
ASIO on the other hand....

Yes ASIO not AISO :hihi: ...too early, although if ASIO existed, it would be probably be better than primary or direct drivers....

I have all three and you cant compare them.

But, if live lite Works in your System, the FL will work, too. Just use the latest non-Beta Release of FL.

I think it boils down to what works the best for you.

I personally really enjoy using Ableton Live and find it inspiring to use and fairly straight forward. However you should use what works best for you.

Lives workflow is quite a bit different than Cubase since it is largely built with "Live" usage in mind. If you have any Ableton related questions there are quite a few Live users here who can help you out!

A couple of thoughts.

You say Live Lite doesn't have the issues but Live Lite has a number limitation of VST's IIRC so are you comparing like for like?

Are you sure you have acceptable buffer sizes in FL?
Some of my music Soundcloud Goseba
