you are really shooting yourself in the foot by trying to navigate a keyboard without reading. Guitar is different. You can go far with just tabs on a fretboard. Don't fool yourself, reading music for piano will be worth the effort.

Do you have an Ipad? There are a number of good apps for learning piano. For reading music, I recommend Pianonotes Pro. For learning rhythms in different time signatures I recommend Readrhythm. They each cost a few dollars. You will improve quickly if you use them every day.

For jazz and blues lessons, check out Piano With Willie.

It depends on what you want to play. If you just want some basic noodling, chords or whatever, then you just need to learn where the notes are. This can be accomplished in minutes.

If you want to play advanced music on the piano such as Chopin etudes or Beethoven sonatas, then I hate to break it to you but you will need lessons and years of practice.

It all just depends on your goals.

This will work well with all the white keys. Avoid the black ones. They will just confuse you. Also, forget about playing with other musicians unless they want to stick to the white keys, too.

That being said, I don't think you need any lessons. Just go for it.

hi,

if you're looking something that does not use sheet music notation check out synthesia (synthesiagame.com). it's quite famous in youtube where you see a lot of animations labeled "...piano tutorial...". you basically see notes falling into the piano keyboard. you need to purchase the learning pack if you want feedback from your midi keyboard. you also need a midi file of the piece you want to learn.

cheers!

A couple tips:

Just put your hands on the keys and play. The more you play, interesting melodies, chords, and patterns will start to show up.

Don't be afraid to play a wrong note. There are no wrong notes. It's all about how you get out of a wrong note.

Maybe learn some basic scales such as C and G. And then learn basic chords for these scales, such as major, minor, and the inversions of these simple chords.
