This new SSL channel strip from IK Multimedia looks great

Tried to demo SSL in the CS shell on my Win7 PC. After activated the trial, the 'Restore My Gear' didn't work and no show of the SSL in the plugin list of my DAW.
Minutes ago I tried to see if things get sorted. Well, the trial expired since 48 hours has past. Won't bothered to request another trial, so my Xmas budget will go elsewhere.

Restore My Gear only works on gear you actually own. To demo the models, you have to use them within the T-RackS Shell. It doesn't make much sense to download and install a single to your plugin directory for a 48-hour trial instead of just unlocking it in the T-RackS shell. Plus, if we did that with the demo, then it would be mere moments before they were all over the internet. It sort of makes it worthwhile for users to actually pay for them...

Much better IMHO!metalifuxx wrote:or perhaps just use more diluted less saturated rings around the knobs so you still have color coded knobs, that way it is easier on the eyes and the text pops a bit more

Change out the gradient background while you are at it, and this could look very nice, I like these muted colors for the dials a lot!Integratron wrote:Much better IMHO!metalifuxx wrote:or perhaps just use more diluted less saturated rings around the knobs so you still have color coded knobs, that way it is easier on the eyes and the text pops a bit more

I activated the demos two days ago and then ended up being too busy to try them out properly. Oh well I guess I'll just have to wait another 2 months.

You still have to do "Restore My Gear" from the CS interface to get demos to show up in the shell. I had the same problem as the guy you are replying to, and I know at least one other person on KVR did.Brian @ IK Multimedia wrote:Restore My Gear only works on gear you actually own. Basically, the CS interface fails to connect to your servers, and it won't let you use your demo even though it clearly says you are supposed to have it. My SSL demo did the same thing--it basically got blocked out about 8 hours into my trial, and I couldn't use it after that, so it expired without me getting much of a chance to try it. You guys definitely have some bugs to work out, and the 2-day limitation is really not long enough for something as subtle as a channel strip.
That said, I did enjoy the very short time I got to spend with it. I'm hoping support will let me demo it again after they fix the bugs with the T-Racks CS server.

This thread is hilarious.
I was just directed to it from another forum where I was asked what I though about the new British Channel plugin. I responded without hesitation that "I think it's the ugliest plugin that I have ever seen", after which time I was then directed to this thread, and found myself relieved to learn that I am not alone in my opinion.
I actually got very excited when I read that there was a new British Channel plugin in T-Racks and was so excited to look at it so that I could see if it was based on the gear I most wanted it to be... but as soon as I saw it I had to actually close my browser in disgust. I thought to myself "Why--of all the possible plugins--wouldn't the British Channel be the coolest looking plugin in the lineup?" Musical things that are British are supposed to be groovy.
But having read through this thread, I have no doubt that the GUI will be changing soon. And let's face it, IK Multimedia designs beautiful GUIs. This is the only time I have seen an IK plugin that was so off-the-mark, so it is not as if they have a bad track record when it comes to designing pleasing GUIs.
I was surprised with your response, Peter, to bk's comment...
It is very easy to trick the human brain. If it looks like a low budget GUI, our brains can easily assume that the coding is low budget. Well my brain could, and I am sure I'm not alone in this.
But I'm glad that this happened. This thread is so funny, and I am fascinated to learn that 90% of the reactions are negative. I wouldn't have expected that so many customers would be as bothered as I am by the design. That's actually somewhat comforting.
Thanks for all the funny pictures folks... and those clever Christmas trees (some with Tyrannosaurus Angels).

P.S. Can someone please post a link to the Facebook page when and if Peter can post an image of the original artwork. I would really love to see what it was supposed to look like.

I totally agree with bk. This plugin probably sounds great (as reported by numerous demo users)... but it would be VERY EASY to imagine that the coding of the plugin is not done to the usual high standards based on looking at the GUI. Even if it sounds good, if I didn't know what I know from reading this thread, I would probably second-guess what I am hearing from the plugin and be telling myself that there is something a bit "cheap" about what it does to my tracks.bk wrote:So, my point is illogical? You won't admit that the way something looks can affect the way a product is perceived by the user? Really?Peter - IK Multimedia wrote: Also, I find that points like the one made about long-term usability and how it may be hard to do so for the user that made the point are far more realistic observations about a GUI. But again, I understand now that yours wasn't a potshot and your opinion is as valid as any other though I find no logical connection between a GUI like this and the sound quality/DSP programming of said plugin.
To try it, just download T-RackS Custom Shop free version at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/trcs if you'd like
That's an interesting opinion for someone in your line of work.
As for trying it, I've already said I can't stand to look at it. If I tried it and like it, then what am I to do?

I have a few thoughts I wanted to share:
I too experienced the same issue with the trial plugins not being available after several hours of usage. Just a bug, but an annoying one for sure. It's like "Here's your shiny, new Christmas present...but you only get to play with it for a few hours". Crap! Very grinch-like of you IK
However, I was able to use the British Channel and the White 2A plugins for a short time. I basically decided to take a mix that I was currently working on and I swapped out the plugins I was using up to that point with the two I mentioned. Holy cow...What a difference! The mix that I was struggling to make sound good just suddenly came together with a depth and punch and sweetness that I could not believe. GUI issues aside (and I'm sure IK has gotten the message) - this is an INCREDIBLE set of plugins for not much cash.
So c'mon boys and girls...let's pull ourselves together and start focusing on what we can DO with these new plugins. IK has done it again. And I, for one don't necessarily mind the new British Channel GUI. It's logically laid out and does just what it's supposed to do. Can you say that about every plugin you own?

In fact the GUI for the British Channel IS groovy! Bright colours themselves are not responsible for something being given the designation "groovy" or "psychedelic". They have to be arranged into an attractive pattern that is actually groovy.AudioGuy720 wrote:In fact the GUI for the British Channel IS groovy!
