I think that a "true" competition (for synths and effects) would be the following.

* All plugins are anonymous and no one is allowed to say which is their plugin.

* To minimize any ability to discern who made what, the GUI should be just the default sliders. Basically, no GUI.


So, I think this would eliminate any developer favoritism; however, it is a horrible idea. Although I agree with everyone that there are issues with this being a contest, no one wants to test 50 plugins with no GUI. And I don't want to make a plugin without any GUI. For me, I am glad that I finished # 17 (from the bottom). I got tons of website hits from KVR, and all of the other websites that re-post KVR's stuff. I think this is a tremendous opportunity...and I hope there is another DC, because I will enter that one too.

I'm all for a "you have to give all points" and a "two week cool off period" mechanism. I mean, the plugin releases are also locked for two weeks until you can comment on it, so why not also the DC?

i'm not particularly concerned with the dc format, it is what the implementers make it. people bring their own perceptions into it, oh well.

the dc was intended to increase free resources. limiting voting to those who can afford to pay would create additional influence over free resources by those who have money, back to square zero. $15 may be a trivial amount to you, it's two weeks of food and spending money to me. which two weeks would you have me take off eating to participate in your proposed plugin democracy?

why do i even have to come here and make statements in defense of this when so many enthusiastic posters are intent on authoritarianism?

again, i couldn't care less about the specifics. what interests me is that people perceive the intent of others on this site.

I dont think many would really entertain the idea of charging for votes in the DC.
Perhaps some other form of 'currency' could be used, but charging cash is sort of against the whole spirit of the DC.
There could be benefits, but the end result would be the death of the DC imo...

On the other hand ... if even just one vote/point(/dollar) separated each of the entrants outside the 'winners', 24/55 would have won you enough to eat for a month.
