good point, though they're not just different names. they're different licenses too i.e when you buy a license it is not the typicaly dual-platform license we are all accustomed to (when a plugin is dual-platform, of course). infact I think I seen the OP mention in the past that he doesn't like when devs who make the same plugin on xp/mac, charge a separate license fee for each individual platform. So be sure to take note of that OP!
dayjob wrote: but what's the hang up w/his upgrade policies? and per the license info is it not possible to install this on more than one system? laptop and desktop? if so that's a deal breaker for me.
I don't know about SODD's upgrade misgivings, but mine are detailed in my post above... by the sounds of things his shitty upgrade schemes are company policy ? I wish something turned up when I was googling crusher-x before buying a license. but then again not much at all in terms of meaningful user feedback really showed up then.

About the install thing, here's a direct quote from the email I received after purchasing a crusher x mac license. it's not the whole email.
Please read carefully!

1. Personal download of the full crusherX-Mac! version

For security reasons you can't register the crusherX-Mac! demo. To download the full version of crusherX-Mac! please go to the following link and fill out the form:

redacted url

Because the amount of your download requests are limited please store the downloaded package on a safe place. Install crusherX-Mac! by using the installer inside the package.

2. Challenge/Response Licensing Server

Now you can start crusherX-Mac!. If crusherX-Mac! is already registered (earlier versions) everything is fine now. If not you have connect to the challenge/response server with the upcoming wizard. This service is web based, but you don't need an internet connection on the computer on which you want to install crusherX-Mac!.

Your personal Registration Key is:

redacted key

Please note: You have only a limited amount of licenses. So please register crusherX-Mac! only on one computer and use the remaining licenses only for backup or if you have to update your computer hardware. If you have trouble using this services, please drop me line. I will assist!

Oh mine was much simpler - I bought a copy in August of 200x and he announced a new rev in October of the same year. I contacted him to ask for a free upgrade and he refused. We went a few rounds but he finally relented but I've never ever been tempted to even look at his products again until now.

wow. seems like he's a bit of a surly curmudgeon. is he a one man operation?

if so... sometimes when no one else is around to bounce policy ideas off of then bad decisions are made.

i certainly don't need software in my life that makes me regret buying it or resent the developer. :?

how curious. bumping a thread you didn't read, from the depths of the second page, yet take the time to [a] find demo links cut & paste them here.

what kvr needs is more people with no vested interest in the topic at hand, joining said topic and saying stuff that might be in their head at the time.

the "whole" thread.. uh huh.. BOTH pages! it could take all day to read it!

It was a good dense information exchange in any case. My question (not from this thread but another identical one) pretty much got answered.

+1. Nice and fluid granulation in AudioMulch, for sure. Quite surprising :)

Thanks for the cue. Nope, first time I hear about this one. I've just tried their free applications, Cosmos & Stochos minutes ago... Quite painful to use to be honest, not friendly at all and it took me like 10 minutes of clicking everywhere just to get a single random sound. I felt I was back in 1999  ...Not for me.

I'm downloading their commercial version demo of Cosmos, that looks and sounds more professional and solid from the website. We'll see....

yeah those older max runtime based apps are typically very personalized to the developer.

the videos are helpful for understanding the commercial apps. definitely different/interesting gui

Wow, thanks so much for that. That's what I'd expect a granular instrument to look like in the 21st century. I'm afraid this killed any desire I might have had to get Crusher X. Cosmos f it is.

Yes, eye candy matters, because it helps you grasp what is going on with your grains and where to nudge and tweak to change it.

i dont know about you guys but whenever i try a granulator plugin i always end up with unusable noise

90% of the tracks i've finished have granulation in them somewhere. either at some sample processing/mangling part of the process that gets cut up and used as stuff to feed a sampler or as an effect to chop things up in quantized bits of various lengths/shapes/pitches.. or as the heart of the composition.

i find it to be one of the most useful sound design/processing tools available.
