So I'm trying to figure out which VST's would be suitable for the whole 'chillwave' sound. Here are some examples:

and

I know there's a lot of reverb, tape-echo and tremolo... but what other effects can be used to produce a similar sound? Are there any 'soft' 80s synth vst's which could work for this sort of sound? Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding softer pads/synths.

Thanks in advance.

For a free synth, check SQ8L for lo-fi / digital sounds...

My personal choice for a commercial synth would be Vember Audio Surge for the digital / lo-fi type of sounds. Very easy to program too.

I have found the synths and effects in FL studio to be ideal for the chillwave genre. I have posted a link to a demo I used using 3 instances of the SIMSynth (an FL studio synth )utilizing bass, lead and pad.

I freaked things out with the dblue glitch VST and fattened things up with the JB ferox VST also. I might suggest also suggest Refx plasticZ and TAL uno 62 ( freeware vst synths )
