Unfortunately PX7 doesn't have anyway near as many modulatable/automatable parameters as a lot of other Reason devices but, yes, it still benefits from Reason's flexible environment. On it's own it's no match for FM8, for instance, but in combination with other Reason rack devices it probably could give FM8 a run for it's money and at a fraction of the price.

dunno about this one,not really into the yamaha dx7,the props are quite heavily promoting it...its great for you dx7 lovers...my money is going on antidote

It's not uncommon to see FM8 on the market place selling for around $99. For a patient person you can effectively treat them as the same price.

Since FM8 can also import DX7 sounds the only advantage PX7 has it's part of the Reason rack.

lets hear some audio comparisons.
in any case it's a no sale for me as i don't use reason....although that could change if reason gets some sort of tablet frienfly update.

The main thing they did was usability. Everything is cleverly laid out right in front of you, no paging or menus. Their interface makes FM easier to grasp and easier to make patches for ordinary people. I can't comment on how it compares sound wise to other software FM synths. But I believe its a "1:1" spot on emulation of DX7. One of the main complaints on internet forums has been that NI FM7/8 don't sound as warm as a real hardware DX7.

After checking it out last night you are right.

I'm hoping that this is just a first release. And more features are in the pipeline.

They should have included the other Yamaha waveforms. It wouldn't have cost them anything, from a developer's point of view.

Reason has been full screen since version 5 (August 2010) was integrated with Record in the Reason/Record Duo package, and in its own right since version 6, released in July 2011.

This is one of the most common misconceptions about DX7 and FM. Yes, the common "FM sound" in people's minds is perhaps that metallic-sounding thing; but for instance the same patch played on a real hardware DX7 versus FM8 sounds completely different. Yes, "warmer". Has more phat to it.

I can understand it being argued that DX7 got a fuller sound than FM7 or FM8.
