Hi Piet,

will check the fxp and the WAv file soon. Thanks for those.

So far i have created around 150 presets and have only used my own waveforms for those...

I was referring to the "impossible to produce on a traditional synth" statement. Rayblaster is advertised to do new things with a revolutionary new way of synthesis. I would like to hear the new and fresh sounds. Just that. And this is no comment regarding any quality of whatsoever. I'm interested in the new and fresh sounds capable only with this synth.

From the Tone2 website:

RayBlaster - a radically new form of synthesis!

Impulse Modelling Synthesis (IMS) is far more than a marketing buzzword - it represents a radically new and different approach in sound generation.
Based on the latest research in psychoacoustics, Tone2 RayBlaster unveils a completely new and unique world of sounds that is exclusive to RayBlaster and not possible with other synthesizers.
Hi Fritz,

personally i am no big fan of "marketing buzzwords". I am doing the sounds that i like and those which the waveforms i have created (many of them with DNR Wave designer) allow me to do with Rayblaster. I don't know if any of the sounds i (and the other sound designers) have done so far are "revolutionary" but IMO they are very nice. Together with the factory sounds, the first soundset (should be published this week, demos already available) and my unpublished presets i got a collection of much more than 700 presets for Rayblaster.

Anyway opposing to some people here i am quite sure that doing "mimics" of certain filters based on single cycle waveforms seems to work but there are limits which i described more than one time now.
Besides that custom and/or complex waveforms create a "fantasy filter" based on those waveforms which could lead to very interesting results. This is a synth where it does not make much sense to talk about what it is able to do. It makes much more sense to try yourself.

You could check this for free waveforms and some additional informations:
http://www.tone2.org/forum/index.php?topic=1336.0

It would be really interesting to see what a great sound designer (no, is is no sarcasm, just for those who think about that...) like Howard would be able to do with Rayblaster.

Yes. You are right. If you like the sound you want to use Rayblaster but there's no discussion about it too much.
Rayblaster is an exceptional synthesizer with which you can have a lot of fun to program new sounds. I like the synths by Tone2.

I am still experimenting with the wavetables. With interpolation between the waves or without.

Hi Piet,

here is a fast preset i just created with your WAV file:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/53230726/PietW ... 1%20IW.fxp

Many thanks for that wavetable.

Here is an audio demo using that preset which i quickly created (no external FXs used):

Ingo Weidner - RayBlaster - PietWT Pad 1

UPDATE:

I just purchased the ValhallaVintageVerb ("VVV") FX plugin and received the keyfile around 15 minutes ago so here is a version using my new "toy" ("Aerial Hall" preset, 50% Dry/Wet):

Ingo Weidner - RayBlaster - PietWT Pad 1 (VVV 1)

Hi friendly people who are interested in Rayblaster, so am I.
Sendy is well known at KvR to post cooool audio demos as she stretches all the tools she gets her hands on to new territories. I like what she is doing. I wished that SHE would post some audios of the new and unheard of stuff that traditional synths can't create. Because I'm a synth lover and I'm interested to hear new sounds. How this can be a bad thing is beyond me.
Rayblaster: I tried the demo and had quite some WOW! and AHA! moments (no, not the cool band...). So it's for sure capable of doing cool things. I would like to hear some more of the cool stuff that excites me and Sendy is always good for some stuff that excites me.

Peace and merry Christmas!
:violin: :harp: :phones: :band:

And while we're at it: I want to honestly apologize to anybody whom I have hurt here at KvR. In the context of Tone2 and anything else. Everybody should have the chance to change for the better. Thanx to the ones who decide to not bear grudges.

Hi Fritz,

no problem. It was just that there were some bad experiences based on other people/posts recently in this thread and your first post looked a bit "suspicious". A post of Urs here threatening with "cease and & desist" letters for posting a comparison here was a bit scary too.
My own posts at you were mostly about getting an idea about your intentions and about explaining a bit about my own POV.

If you want to discuss about Rayblaster you are of course welcome. :)

As i already mentioned i am curious too to hear audio demos from people that do not participate in the official soundbanks for Tone2.

As you could see i juts posted a preset and an audio demo based on a wavetable (WAV fikle) by PietW.
I also posted a link for the upcoming Futuron soundset that should be published any day (today?) now.

Really not bad. Some nice presets there.

The scope of possible sounds that could be done with Rayblaster is very broad.

Sometimes you get an interesting result with just "throwing" a waveform into Rayblaster and play a bit with the Formant knob. Except if the waveform is based on a known filter you'll usually not know what happens while changing the Formant knob. Anyway complex waveforms seem to result in something like a Formant and/or Comb filter. I also had examples where it sounded like Resonance as a part of the waveform had the shape of a resonant waveform.

The end of the world according with Rayblaster :borg:
Happy ending to all of you, and watch your speakers :hihi:

IMS Madness

Talking of sounds that can be hardly created on other synths these are just 3 patches playing one after the other picked from some stuff I'm working on. I'm just playing a few random notes here and modulating the sound with the MW and pitch bend. The modulation options of Rayblaster allows to create unusual and complex sounds very quickly; to get the same results from another synth would require more work and the results would be different from a sonic point of view.
Sometimes I'm surprised by what you can get from just a couple of notes :-o

One interesting thing is that, considering the amount of modulation going on, the CPU load was ridiculously low in the making of this audio clip.

Cool demo but i am not one of those who have to be convinced that Rayblaster is great.

You could also check the preset and audio demo i have created with the wavetable that PietW posted yesterday (see a few posts above). That preset was done in less than 15 minutes but it's not my first "wavetable" preset (yes, the demo is just a single preset and no phaser FX is involved even if it sounds like it...).

A usual "session" with Rayblaster starts picking a certain waveform and playing with the Formant knob. After that you could play with the other controls, the FXs and modulation.

PS:
The end of the world will not come before the Futuron soundset has been released...

I was playing with it a few hours ago :D
Nice one!

I hope to find some time after x-mas to test some other stuff I have in mind. I think it would be interesting to find some guidelines on how to reproduce in the best possible way a certain filter/osc. I think this is one of the aspects of Rayblaster that need to be explored further. :wheee:
