Barebones notation editor with MIDI out?

I've been using MuseScore for awhile. It's nice, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to get it to send MIDI out to another program. I have MIDIYoke, but it insists on using Jack, which doesn't appear to work for me. It has a whole proprietary way of sending MIDI instead of using the standard ins and outs all my other programs do.

I want a notation editor that can put notes on the page (nothing fancy) and send the score out through MIDI. ReWire support would be lovely. as long as these criteria are met, my main concern is price. What's a good program that can handle this?

The only "barebones" music notation program I can think of that has the MIDI capability you're looking for built in is Notion, which you can download for USD$99. Sibelius also has ReWire support built in but is a full-featured professional notation program that costs an arm and a leg (FWIW, I use Finale, which also costs an arm and a leg although it doesn't support ReWire yet, but I don't need that functionality).
