First of all thanks for this new patch.
I have one question though - when I first load the monolithic patch it can't find pocketBlakus.nkr, so I point it to the correct folder. Then I save the patch as a monolithic file - so I don't have to search each time I load it.
The next time I load the patch, it can't find it's wallpaper file, and still can't find pocketBlakus.nkr either!
Has anyone else seen this?
for now, I'll just search for the correct path every time I load the patch

Just dropping by to share my experiences with poketBlakus 1.6.
I like its "rough" sound, not one of those over-processed and over-tamed pets, but a real beauty of a beast. I like smooth instrument sections, but solo instruments (IMO) should be a little rough and have some bite, so that they can stand out against the sections in a mix.
So sound-wise I'm really happy.
BUT ... I couldn't use it in my last project, because it was always causing trouble.
Two of the most annoying things were:
* Clicks in the sustain phase of some notes after a couple of seconds - so mostly no long notes. I like my long notes, and even with all the other treats like legato, round-robin, modweel-expression and the pitch-bending... no long notes means close to no use. Unfortunately.
* On some note-stops, the sound would silence unevenly, so one could distinctively hear the right channel dying earlier than the left channel, and both died before the center of the sound died, so it seemed like a really bad cut reverb effect or so. Tried playing with the release-time and noise volume/amount, no success, still there.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll try to capture the problem in sound amd upload later on.
One less annoying, but still annoying, thing was, that every now and then the pB would start making crackly sounds and finally die irreversably into silence.
All that helped was removing the instrument from Kontakt and re-loading it, or saving the project session, quitting reaper and re-opening the project.
Oh, yeah, and this thing about missing files... Kontakt tells me some .nkr is missing, I go into the folder ... and there it is. Srsly?
So all in all I have very mixed feelings about this thing.
It sounds decent and has a lot of nice features ... but it doesn't quite cut it yet. Still too buggy and too "beta" to be a serious threat against the competition.
In the end I used the solo cello in the free Sonatina library.
Doesn't sound nearly as nice, agreed, but it's still better than the Kontakt one ... and, well, it "worked". Which unfortunately is what counts when I'm making music.
But you should definitely continue to work on this thing!
Just the sound alone is so much more "real" than what the Quantum Leap Solo Violin delivers. I know, I know, violin and cello = apples and pears, but still: one sounds like a real cello, the other one sounds like a 1/2 synth + 1/2 toy violin.
If the real sounding one would "work", I'd really be asking myself why I paid for that QL violin...

Thanks for the feedback. I actually don't experience any of those issues! It may actually be beneficial for people having problems to download v1.5 that is far more simple under the hood. Same sound but not much can go wrong as there is pretty much no additional scripting. (This is the version that I actually use too). When missing files are prompted, just point to the download directory and then resave the NKI.
Apart from that this was just a 15min test never intended to go as far as it has already! And certainly never meant to compete with competition. Enjoy the freebie, and thanks again.

I'm having the same experience as chokehold here..
Silence sometimes, missing file everytime unless I save it with the project, Crashing and pulling kontakt down with it.
But nice sound, so I'm still using it
Would be great to have these kinks worked out. I know, I know, free. But why not make it perfect?
Cheers!

I experience the silence issue too. It happens moving the mod wheel for expression and it seems to me that the problem started with very last Kontakt update.
You can see levels in graphic interface still represent the right volume but no sound can be heard. BTW you don't need to reload the instrument, it's enough to press the panic button in Kontakt (the question mark icon on top of interface).
Anyway I love the instrument and I'm pointing it out only for feedback purposes.
Thank you again Blakus for sharing this!

Blake gave me permission to post a modified version of the spiccato patch so I thought I'd share it here, too. It's a "tight" version of the spiccato articulation where the start of the samples have been modified to be shorter and more consistent. I suggest using the full ones when you want a more natural sound and these ones when you want a tighter and more precise one.

So far I haven't run into users having the silence issues with this one, so please mention them if you have them.

I really can't thank you enough for these beautiful cello samples, I use them all the time and pretty much put them in everything I make. They sound much better, prettier and realistic than any other library I have, including East West Silver, Miroslav and Kirk Hunter. If you played the violin too I'd never have to use any other library ever again!!
Always look on the bright side of life

Thanks for the new patch.
Also, I should jump in the bandwagon and say that this is the most realistic solo cello.
