Hello,

I don't play out with keyboards, but want a MIDI connector that is reasonably reliable to connect my Axiom keyboard to an iphone 4S.

I had bought an iRig MIDI online. It didn't work, and it felt like a factory second. Never seemed to fit right on the iPhone. When I looked at Amazon reviews, I could see that production quality seemed to be a problem.

I *might* consider buying another one, but want to know if anyone recommends other devices instead that seem to be more solid.

Cost: $70 or less please

I'm a big fan of iConnectMIDI, but it's more than the $70 price. I have read some people say their iRig MIDI is not very secure, which is unfortunate. I used one with an iPad and never had a problem.

Iconnectmidi is worth every penny. Love it. The app adds even more value!

My first iRig Midi had the same problem as yours. I sent it back and the replacement has been fine. Nice piece of kit.

Thanks for the replies!

I'll probably try another iRig MIDI, but I'll get it a brick-and-mortar store and see if it works on my iPhone 4s before I leave the parking lot.

In my digging around, bluetooth MIDI looks promising, but my Mac isn't new and AFAIK it wouldn't work.

iConnectMIDI looks great, but too pricey right now.

I am interested as well.this iconnectmidi uses usb1 but we're now on usb 3 so not sure how future proof it is! Yamaha imx 1 looks cool but I will most probably buy the irig as well

Isn't USB 1 enough for MIDI?
I mean, if Atari computer were able to handle MIDI messages and MIDI sequencers...

I suppose it depends on the amount of data sent! my Roland vdrums send massive amounts of data which a lot of interfaces have trouble handling they have bottle necks which is why I use Midex8 linear time base system whereas usb 3 should be more optimised to handle lots of data, just a thought

Ok, thanks for the info!

The amount of data you refer to will cause trouble in ANY normal MIDI interface. MIDI has a very narrow bandwith. The interface you have is not a mere interface, it's a MIDI processor in itself, as it handles the packs and manages them itself. You dopn't have nothing like that for iAnything. USB 1 is more than enough for traditional MIDI interfaces, and for the kind of uses that iApps allow, AFAIK.

Like I said,I'm not sure HOW usb1 will be future proof! that's all really,usb3 is the new format but I am no expert, maybe there will be something usb3 in 2013/14 anyway iconnectmidi looks cool
