I know this! It's like, they couldn't do what you allegedly can do today, but they worked and you could get things done!jacqueslacouth wrote:i feel absolutely ridiculous...I have synths stacked up in a cupboard that I can't get to because of the synths piled up in front of it, never mind a computer bursting at the seams with soft synths. I have completed 3 tracks in the last 5 years. When I started out in the 80s with an SH101, a DR550 and a cheapo acoustic with a Tascam 4 track I was churning out 6 or 7 in a weekend. I think the choice has spoiled me for knowing what I'm trying to do and so I end up gear shuffling, tweaking this, fiddling with that and in the end, completely failing to play music...so...NO, I'm not happy with my Arsenal,
Reaper is the closest, but it's a bummer when they've pretty much stopped develpment (I don't call a couple of wacky afterthoughts development btw)

As far as softsynths, all I need now is to re-purchase Alchemy (using Alchemy Player right now), and I think my arsenal is complete (Komplete).
I have more mastering and audio effects, though I'm sure I still need some more.
I really didn't have to purchase all that much this last year to feel like I was happy with what I had. The only thing I bought that I really didn't feel like I needed (until I bought it) was Komplete 8. Now I'm not sure how I lived without it for so long.
I've upgraded to Cubase 7 with no issues, so I'm good there until their next release (I don't collect Hosts), and I feel like the only thing I REALLY need now is a fretless bass. I should be able to buy that in the next few days.

The last few days have been interesting for me; been going through all the current xmas deals that caught my eye and pretty much discounted every one. Maybe properly testing out demos against stuff I already have has highlighted just how little I know about a lot of the stuff I already have.
Y'know? Harmor's great but I've never really looked at the additive side of Rhino for instance. Studio One has nice workflow but I can do it all in Reaper (and more).
Actually feel in a better place, feel I'm 'in control' of my tools rather than just having a sprawling vst folder that I randomly grab stuff from without really exploring it.

I currently feel I have everything I need, took me more than a decade to figure it out.
If something really great this way cometh, I might be tempted to get it. But after my recently satisfied GAS (thank you Plugin Alliance) I'm currently not looking for anything.
Should you care, then read on.
Could be boring if you don't, though.

I still have a lot of stuffs in my wishlist, but decent speakers, bigger LCD, and Reaktor is enough to cover my needs.

I'm cool with what's inside my computer, but I need actual things. Monitors, some decent headphones, mic stand and a midi keyboard. A few pedals wouldn't hurt either. Strymon, Catalinbread Echorec, Earthquaker Devices Rainbow Machine, etc.

I'm really happy with what I have.
I definitely can understand the frustration that some have voiced here. Doing work for other people has definitely helped more than anything, in terms of deciding what I need and don't, and in just FINISHING stuff. I would also just noodle on something for months, and never get it done...now i just don't have that option.
In terms of plugins, it worked out almost like reverse GAS...if I wasn't using stuff, I just sold it. So my instruments/plugs are a pretty short list.
There's always room for new gear, though all that comes to mind on that front would be a sub for my monitors, and maybe Diva at some point?

The holiday sales haven't caused any majo g.a.s. this year, so I think I'm really happy with my stuff. But I have to admit that I was pretty busy buing stuff the last 18 months: Diva,Komplete8,Maschine,Alchemy,SynthSquad and some smaller bits here and there. There's still great stuff out there like Diversion, Lush, the Imageline Sale,Aalto and so on but I feel everything is more than covered with the stuff I own already.

Really need to build a custom table - to improve workflow(a cluttered mess currently). Should also build some more/better diffusors. There is still 1U space left in my rack... Still happy with my Pro40, happy with my monitors(AKG-LSM-50s) - but the dang amp feeding it is giving trouble for the third time
