I'm beginning to see why karrikuh might not have wanted to support full user skinning.....

Well here's a quick and dirty paint job..........

I chose orange because it fits the color scheme of the host I'm using and without it was kind of bland.....needed a splash of color. I tried to make each section look like a separate module and if I knew how I'd add tiny screws on the four corners of each module just for that retro hardware look.
I think Charlatan is a good honest analog synth and should retain that look and feel...a modern look just spoils the vibe in my opinion......

A lot of plugins allow access to all the information required to create complete skins (Tyrell N6 for example). In the case of Charlatan the graphics files are locked inside the .dll and we have no access to the config or ini files to determine knob position, skin size etc......It would probably be easier to allow access to all the files needed to skin Charlatan than it would be to code in HUE parameters for every element...
At any rate the main complaint expressed by several people....the bright red gui that some find harsh on the eyes....can now be changed so I'm satisfied at this point. I hope Charlatan will continue to grow so any skins created now would probably be broken anyway as new features get added....

now some freeaware generous developer could come up with a similar concept (simple, straight to the point ) but for a fm..ish , digital sounding synth!
thanks.
thanks.

i like the fact that the vst is a single dll, and not like uhe products with several files all over. i think that that causes the slight delays when opening the gui. charlatan & synth one dont know that issue , just click on the synthname and bam they open instantly. love it. i like the ErickUO skin but i think just changing the official color from red to "gotham" black would do the trick too!

I've said this before but I'll say it again, the ability to give each preset it's own colour scheme is SUCH a nice feature to have. I can think of only one synth that did that... it was some weird mutant chipsynth. But most of us people who create music and sounds are creative people, and like to use colour and other stuff to get in the right mood, or represent aspects of the sound.
BTW Teksonic's yellow and grey one is my favourite so far. I think partly because it reminds me of my favourite Lego Technics kit I had when I was a kid, which had yellow and grey bricks

I can't read the blue text... and the font is a bit weird IMO. But the 303 styling is awesome! I wonder how well Charlatan does acid, now...layzer wrote:

I like the concept but it's so fuzzy it looks like something from Windows 3.1Sendy wrote:I can't read the blue text... and the font is a bit weird IMO. But the 303 styling is awesome! I wonder how well Charlatan does acid, now...layzer wrote:

I also did this edit for those who want no color at all....

Horribly bland but I could stare at it for hours with no eye fatigue......
