Anyone else holding of all reverb purchases till Exponential release?

What's the point of a demo if you still need to purchase a dongle to use it.

it's perfectly simple;; demos get cracked too. i'm of the belief that demos are frequently the source of cracked apps/plugs, frequent enough to be considered "commonplace" at least. someone correct me if that isn't true.

i'm not sure if it was you, but i've mentioned this before.. the last time someone on kvr was bemoaning demos that require dongles.

also, no one expects you to buy a dongle to demo something. they only expect existing dongle users to demo it. if that's not you, they don't expect you to demo it.

Over time I'll be posting many more musical examples featuring Phoenix and R2. I'm trying to carve out time to do some instructional videos as well. It's not quite the same as having the demo in hand, but it should illustrate the plugins nicely. If someone's hanging in the balance about spending a few bucks on an iLok, then perhaps this material will be helpful. Sorry, but there will be no demo without iLok. I have considered creating some sort of crippled demo for people who don't have the iLok, but that would take considerable time and would take me away from creating new plugins and supporting my customers.

Yes, the examples were the source sound + one Aether preset and nothing else. The source sounds where usually one of the following if I remember correctly: MetaSynth, Rapture, Massive, and/or maybe just one of the built-in Logic or Cubase synths for purposes of using as minimal of a tool set as possible to show the differences between wet and dry...

If I didn't give dry, it was because I liked the sound so much that I wanted to use it for my own artist material, and I can't give away all my secret sauce.

Here are a few of the presets used. The others are not documented but would most likely be something in the "mystical" folder in the factory presets or the Creativity expansion, or some custom preset I made/tweaked for those sounds. It's been some time since they were made, so the details are a little fuzzy at this point. Here is what I can find easily though:

These examples obviously lean in the "instant ambient space music" category. They don't have to be this extreme to get good "lushness"... The "Thematic" folder is also good for "larger than life" type stuff.

This one was a proposal for the intro of Sasha's Invol2ver that I did a while ago, that ended up not being used b/c the first track on the album was changed.

This is not so simple/minimal of an example though. It probably involved Metaynsth, Aether, various synths, bouncing, processing in Metasynth, importing in Cubase, more mixing in Cubase, more Aether, and perhaps a final layer of Aether at the end. Plus various EQ and dynamics. Aether is the only verb.

Thanks m8, much appreciated, as Aether is my personal fav, and always like to see how to make better verbs. I've always found it a lush sounding verb tbh. Especially on main leads.

That's fair enough, but tbh if I tried a demo of something that I thought a lot of, i'd get an ilok2 so I could buy it.

I don't have a problem using a dongle, I have Cubase, so I use the elicenser.

One alternative view to consider here, Michael, is that you might just end up with more customers if you have a dongle-less demo. If it's too risky that it would be cracked, that's sort of another matter. You are not out of the norm in requiring a dongle for the demo of a product that requires a dongle for the full version.

However, the issue with iLok is this: it's not really just a few extra dollars, it's something like $30-$40 and the time to get it shipped to you.

Also, iLok is different than the Steinberg/Synchrosoft situation because those dongles were shipped out willy nilly for free with boxed products for years. I still have four of them sitting around, and only use one product now that requires one. iLoks have never been handled that way, AFAIK, which is why the no-iLok-no-demo policy has always been a pain for a lot of people. They have to pay a good chunk of money then wait for something to be shipped to them before they can even know if they will ever be in a position where they actually need it for anything.

That's actually a lot to ask for someone to demo a product. Yours is one of the very first that appears attractive enough to push me into doing it, and part of why I'm willing is I already know I want the Synthogy Ivory V.2 upgrade, which now requires iLok 2.
