What about a hollow body semi-acoustic? You'd have a hollow body to start with then the neck and electronics would be the only other weight.

all i can say here is, abuse.
not towards you, towards the guitar, as in "its going to get some"

also, ebow, my current semi ac doesnt respond to it.
at last on solid bodys i can mess about with pick up combos of my own choosing and what not.

Maybe look at some of the more 'metal' guitars then as a few manufacturers make a 'lightweight' version. Brands like Jackson I think do that, maybe Ibanez, etc.

The Curvycaster is suprisingly heavy, it has a really chunky neck so the body needs to be heavy-ish for balance. I reckon a full body made of the same Lauan wood, wouldn't be far off a SG weight wise.

mine, I couldn't in all honesty recommend anyone buys one unless they're prepared to splash out on having it setup at least. Mine had various QC problems, tho' I seemingly got a *good 'un* compared to the one I saw bought over at CM forum.

What you need to do then is sling your strap around your waist a couple of times like Steve Albini does, no pressure on your neck then at all.

vurt.. its been two and a half years.. what guitar did you end up with? I'm looking for a super light.. and super cheap.

So far I've seen both the Danelectro and Yamaha RGX2A recommended.

I have a RBX4A2 (the 4 stringed bass equivalent of that rgx) and it is rather light for bass. Looking for that in guitar form.

i went with the dan electro dc 59, nice and light definitely.
however due to worsening nerve damage even that cant be strapped around the back of my neck, and my fingers dont work properly anymore, so ive had to adopt a new playing style, sat down guitar laid across my lap ala lap steel, new tunings and such

I'll bring the lightest of my selection over when I can make it over John, Good news is it'll be soon as kids are back to school/home imap tutor for my Luke today. Not saying it will be the exact model you will want but it might give you an idea and member that I have to be v.careful what I buy as sort of same boat my friend

I rather think the SG is the way to go but instead of Gibson or Epiphone look for an ESP or LTD Viper instead for a no messing around 2xHB hartail that doesn't weigh in overly heavy. Ibanez's SA range are very light and worth hunting down to try a few also but not sure what sort of budget your on but still cheap Ibanez's are still of decent quality IMO FWIW, Play well

Sorry to hear of your physical ailments though.. that's terrible!! I'm glad you found a way to still play and I'll be praying for you.. I have bad shoulders and back (chronic trigger points), so I am looking for the least stress on my shoulders.

I also have a bass and have tried wrapping the strap around my waist but it too short to reach by a couple inches

Though just holding the short side and letting the strap hold the other side of the bass, it did feel do-able so I might try this experiment with a longer guitar strap.

Thankfully, my condition seems to be improving very slowly for the most part (3 years of slow improvement with random relapses of them going mad)

Doctor tells me it's nerve problems so nothing he can do about it, hands me a couple sample bottles of anti-depressants, and walks me to the exit without even taking scans or anything. ugh. I'm not depressed. I'm also not taking medication to mask the symptoms. I'm in pain and upset because you're (doctor) not taking my issue seriously. hehe

In any case.. I'll look into this Danelectro model. Thanks again!
