You could find some untreated dry guitar clips, to take the focus off of your playing (if thats what you want)...
Has anybody ever really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

That's absolutely true. I was recording a guitar track for a tune the other day and had a hard time getting the right tone for it that could sit in the mix the way I wanted to. I tried different AT3, Poulin, AcmeBarGig, Vandal, Simulanalog and others to get a sort of clean but semi crunched sound for soloing on that jazzy tune. At last I gave a try with Guitar Rig 5, which is a generation of amp sims that I did not use for a while since I was finding more realistic sound from other amp sims like those described above. NI Guitar Rig is one of those that seems nobody likes. IMHO it is not that bad, it has very good effects and the blue COOLPLEX model is cool...Ken McLaren wrote:

Ok, the thing is that the PLEXI model of this despised software did the job with a great tone that sat in the mix perfectly, like a ring to a finger.
Conclusion: different situations demand different tones. So there will be one of all these amp sims that will fit exactly the way you want to. And that's why I own many of them. There' no one SILVER BULLET.

But............BUT...........!
I think it's fair to say that MANY of us are still looking for that "silver bullet". I've come really close with recabinet, but I STILL feel like BLECK sometimes. Some days I'll plug in with an orgasm, and other it's like WTF was I thinking about this tone
Oh well, that's how it goes. I have them all, and yet the hunger remains........that reminds me, I need to PM someone about that kemper........

Shane has done a great job with Recabinet! The new speaker dynamics is nice too. hibidy you beat me to it, I wanted to mention Recabinet too, but I thought I'd get flamed for mentioning a cabinet and not a head.hibidy wrote:But............BUT...........!

Anyways so many people are focussed on the head when a change of cabinet sometimes is all you need to get to the tone you want.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention, FLYING HAGGIS !! love it!

Can't remember my list from last time but I've been trying various ITB amp solutions out since the laptop I've had for a while can actually handle them instead of either shitting its pants and running like hell or even worse - latency being the issue (worse because its like a dirty cock tease, Screaming 'Look what you could be tryin if...'). So I've been enjoying in no specific order, On bass guitar and also in some cases used as a clean pre-amp hit with high-gain distortion pedal or just clean with 6, 7 and 8-string guitars -
IK Multimedia AmpliTube 3 (Including AmpegSVX and some CS gear that is essential for me personlly)
Overloud MarkBass Mark Studio II & TH2
Alien Connections ReValver Mk II & Peavey ReValver Mk III.5 (finally pulled the trigger on that one as for some situations it is good)
TSE's pedals and amps
Ignite Amps pedal and amps
LePou amps and cab IR loader
AXP SoftAmp - Really like the 3OD from the 2012 DC and am going to try out the GT which only recently was released, Its more than five I know but checkout AXP SoftAmp's stuff
This list could go on as there are quite a few others and the above list is not favorites as such but simply what I've used most recently, Ken & Co's Head Case for example I have only just grabbed the demo and that is going to take along time to explore...Even scratch the surface!
and awe
Also combinations of the lot are usually very good and enable some sounds that would not be possible otherwise, I try to treat all the ITB stuff as I do my non-virtual hoard of pedals, amps, processors and effects, Obviously like the real world some things just work whilst other things no matter what I try does not. There is just such a plethora of options that I sometimes get stuck trying to chose so thats when I'm most likely to chuck out my NS-2 with CM-2 OD in the loop pedal setup hitting the front end of one of my heads and into one of my cabs with an MD421, Sigma or Delta and 57 on it and be done with it as yeah I have alot of choice non-virtual wise but have some total go to setups I know will work with minimum of fuss
Thats not softwares/ITBs fault though, That is my own

I still hate 'em all
Ok, so, the BEST thing about the TSE is it's not noisy!
and that is with HIGH gain! The worst thing is that I'm sick of dealing with cabs
I'm tired of impulses, tired of loading them........etc.
SIGH.............
Anyways, rockrack is still literally cutting the mustard. It's not always sold on at first, then I put it in with something and it's like "oh". I dunno. I'm tired. I don't wanna play anymore
I'm sick of comparing.........I'm sick of it not being right.

Yea, I like it mostly for the power section. I feed that Softamp tube model into it and use it for clean or mild crunch guitar. It's excellent!
