Oh boy, another VA synth. This time from Waves!

Has anyone been getting BSODs since they installed the Element demo and Waves licencer? My computer does crash once every few days so it could be coincidence, but usually those are lockups and not BSODs. I've had 3 since I put Element on. If it persists I'll uninstall it and see if that helps.

So that equates to troll? Honestly, even if he's off at all, so what? It a FORUM. You know, where people are going to voice their opinions? SHEEEEESH!pdxindy wrote:you called it mindblowing...jalcide wrote:thanks, hibidy.hibidy wrote:Why did the troll card have to be played?
Now that's where I get pissed, just uncalled for.
that said, i am gushing a bit about this synth. it's not totally unexpected.
also, the things i'm gushing about are very subtle -- not night and day. i still love all those synths i mentioned (obviously, i bought them all). instead of saying "better" let's just say that what i'm hearing in Element is "different". something different that i like.
anyways, looking forward to hearing any and all examples!

no problems with the Elements demo here. Got the demo license on an USB stick and used the demo license on both my desktop PC and my notebook without crashes (after some hours of using it).
I use it on Windows 7 32-bit with Ableton Live 8.3.4.

I think Waves is on a good way with this synth but I agree that they should add some more options to Unison and the effects... The idea to have a very easy to use synth is not bad but 2013 people expect a bit more flexibility.

Hey, he addressed it well, showed he is not and it is past... no need to be annoyed about something already gone...

Same here. I had a good impression from the first minutes on.billcarroll wrote:I agree with you. There is something about this synth's sound I really like. There is a bite and tone I really like.jalcide wrote:thanks, hibidy.hibidy wrote:Why did the troll card have to be played?

Already played a longer time with the demo and also based on the special deals offered at e.g. JRRshop i'll maybe do the purchase soon.

I had youtube on in the background when I was testing Element and sometimes that can cause a crash for some reason - there's a good chance it was just a coincidence.
One thing I've picked up on is that I like how smudgy the filter is. I mean smudgy in a good, artistic way. Hard to explain.
Is there really no way to change the pitchbend range though? With only six mod slots and TWO required to set up modwheel vibrato, that's a pretty basic omission for a 200 dollar synth, ze?
And it bears repeating, the knob "physics" can go to hell

I really like the sound of this synth. At first, going through some of the bass sounds, it sounded kind of dull and average. But as I went through more sounds, I found some really cool leads and pads.
It definately has a unique sonic footprint. No, the filters don't jump out and grab you like korg legacy analog or v-station. But it has a very raw searing vibe to it that will be a useful addition to my toolbox.

Just decided i demoed enough and ordered at JRRShop for 59,77 Euros (75,65$).
At the shop it shows 89$ but at checkout you get the discounted price.
I already received and registered the license.

I quickly tested it, and as others have pointed out, it's not half bad. In fact, if there ever was an immediately usable synth, this should score quite high. There are many usable presets and it sounds quite pleasing, punchy. It does have a slightly muffled quality though, and the filter refuses to go anywhere near self oscillation. On the filter, I found that with lower notes and the resonance turned up to 1 o clock and further, there is some very noticeable aliasing.
For a similar money, similar features, you could also get Kilohearts One, which I beyond a doubt would recommend over Element. I like the sound quality and the interface much much better, a very deep, piercing sound and better filters. YMMV of course, but I can see people liking Element, it's very utilitarian.

Just checked and at the current discounts (e.g. JRRshop) One is around 20 Eoros more expensive than Element.BDeep wrote: For a similar money, similar features, you could also get Kilohearts One, which I beyond a doubt would recommend over Element.
I'll not comment about One as it's the sound of Element i like which is more or less independent of the feature set.
Aynway Element also seems to have features that One does not have (e.g. Step/Gate sequencer).
If you have a closer look the feature set of Element (besides additional controls for the Unison) is quite impressive and some cool things like e.g. the "Punch" button (Amp envelope) or the knobs for the envelope shape maybe are not obvious at the first look.
Also the modulation is quite impressive as you could modulate almost everything. The sequencer could be also used for modulation.
UPDATE:
Just found you could even modulate the envelope shape knobs...

Hi Ingo, you're right, I was comparing the current Waves price ($99) vs One (€80) which is about the same, but yes, you can get Element quite a bit cheaper at different resellers.
And synth choice is always a personal thing, whatever works for one person, doesn't for another.
