Thanks. I might try that later.
But i think i solved my problem for now. It seems that the performance controls are very unreliable in receiving their values. Nothing seems to work on them. But the internal synth engine DOES indeed work with all the controllers. I was just doing the obvious stupid mistake of relying on the screen to give reliable values. With this thing you need to expect everything to be broken :D
Must be from all that distortion

So all the knobs are useless.. bummer.
They can't even be switched to "local off" mode to be used as midi controllers. They are hard wired to the synth engine... but they don't update from external control :x   Who the f**k made this thing? Oh yeah wait.. Avid. That tiny audiohardware boutique
Even the supplied editor is like it's made by ADHD kids. There's so much redundancy, sending wrong controls, with wrong parameter ranges..

Had to get that off my chest... sorry
It's been a rough week working on this. Haha :)

Btw.
Using the external midi connectors instead of the usb didn't help.
Maybe a hard reset will help. I'll test that soon.

Ah.. Slow progress...

Yes, I discovered some of these issues my self in doing sound design.
I had to toss out the initial sounds as the system was not reading them correctly when bringing them back in.

There were other issues but I have spent some serious time learning the ropes and the flaws.
I had to question if it was worth the time.

Well I continued and as everything now is loading back properly.

But you will find you have to do things Venom's way.
There are reasons the price dropped.

Having said that it does seem to do what it needs to and as its priced like a controller, the rest is a bonus.

The original editor was based on the newest MidiQuest design.
Also the programmer finally said its a firmware issue.

Dont think we will see that being updated any time soon.

Yes that seems to be the case. Venom's way or no way :D

The issues are totally about bad management. There's been several people doing this project, with no master plan behind it. No good documentation to follow. That leads to a mess where you have 5 different controller methods, huge bugs when interface coder has no idea what the controls are supposed to do, crazy and illogical indexing, badly named parameters, and luckily a working good sounding synth engine, which can't be properly used.. and is totally overshadowed by all the bugs and problems. Even the synth manual has huge misconceptions of data addressing and sysex indexes. Clearly written by someone who had no idea of any of it..

I'm guessing some single genious person made the synth engine after which it was turned over to some "expert team" who f**k'd it all up when making a product out of it.

I'm not letting Vyzex easy on this either. They haven't done their homework on these subjects either. Unless the problem is in the MidiQuest they use as a base.

Ah but i have to stop ranting about this now. I don't know what all lead to these problems. Maybe they have good reasons. The sale of M-Audio for example.

With a bit of luck and hard work we can still have an awesome and usable synth out of this. I just hope I won't drown on this projects complexity :D

Well if I waited, I wouldn't be getting it on my birthday though....

Maybe I should buy a second one as a backup at this price.

Ok, that totally sucked. I go on amazon to look and start thinking I'm getting greedy ordering another, then as I'm looking I spy a Korg NanoKONTROL version 1 in white and blue for $40. Bought it because I'm losing my Radium 49 to my son to make room for the venom and it doesn't work for using the knobs as midi controller only.

Stupid Amazon and their low prices....

I'm not too worried about the controllers on the synth itself not working for automation myself, just that the vst can edit the synths engine, hold the setting of the midi in/outs and have instant re-call upon reloading a project so it works just like any other vst. that's the main thing.

Your other editor, Mopho'ed works totally fine with my Remote Zero SL MK II and Automap 4.5. So for me I can configure the Venom'ed to that again - it would obviously work if you are using the same type of coding or whatever framework to make the synth.

Just a heads up... :)

I have a 2nd on the way, originally as a backup. Just dug out a 2 tier stand to use both :-)

Back up to $325

Glad I got one at least at the low price. I'll keep watching it though. Almost bit the bullet on number 2 at $167 and was watching to see if it dropped lower, then ...bang! Up again in price. Do they use a randomizer or something? Maybe all sold out at store offering the cheapest, then next store has a higher price so it goes up...weird.

Maybe they realize that when they sell a truckload at the cheapest prize, they may as well raise it again and hope that people will still go for it. It's called money making  :hihi:
It's still one of the cheapest hardware synths out there.

Hi Guys,

Really looking forward to a VST Venom editor, sounds ideal.

Having few problems at the minute though, every (and I mean EVERY) time I start up Ableton (win 7 64bit) it cannot open the M Audio interface ?!?!?

It requires that i do a hard reset of the pc in order to pick it up. Has anyone else had any similar problems?

Thanks

Install the latest firmware update to your venom, try that if you haven't

Thanks.

I'm already running that version of the firmware and still having these problems.

Not sure if it's something to do with windoews 7's way of handling USB ?!?!? no idea tbh lol

Oh well I'll just keep trying :)
