Are you trying to use venom as your only audio/midi interface?KungFuDaz wrote:My bad ..... seems I have the latest driver but my firmware hasn't been updated ... just doing that now and will hopefully have better results

Go to control panel in windows 7 > Sound > Manage audio devicesKungFuDaz wrote:Going through all that right now, not entirely sure what everything should be set at so trial and error at the moment.
Set M-audio device as you playback and recording device - set as default
after installing the firmware update in control panel you should see an M-audio icon now - make sure it's set at 44,000 or whatever it is near that figure
Now in your daw make sure that the m-audio is your default driver for your host.
I use cubase 5 btw. don't know what your host is?(edit, yes I do)
See if it now works
other than that turn off your pc/synth - unplug usb, reboot both, re-plug venom usb into a 'different' port- may now pick it up properly and work.

Thanks for the help guys, my brain is fried for the night so I'm gonna go chill out and try all this again in the morning.
Again thanks for the advice I'm sure i will get it up and running, from what I can gather so far after playing for a while with the vysex editor is that the distorted onboard sounds are pants and Venom is more than capable of making some nice smooth analogue-esque sounds.
Can't wait to get stuck in, cheers guys
Daz

Just got mine in the mail today. And eight of the keys were dead out of the box. Returning this bad boy ASAP.

Try a hard reset. I'm surprised if its brand new 8 keys are not working.

Ok... I received mine today after a classic "brown truck friday story".
I worked on a manual today in order to keep an eye on the front window and another one on a laptop, both ready to defeat any ninja technique
The Venom did not work immediately but its LCD display finally turned to green after a while... The "thing" probably felt that I was about to put it back in its box. I still don't understand what happened but...
Everything seems to work fine now and I'm very happy with this new keyboard!
I will probably test the synth part further during the week end (too much things to work on, as usual) but will test its ASIO driver and audio inputs during the next few days while working on my things.
I will probably have more to say about it then.
Thanks again for your feedback!
All the best,
P.

Everything ok on mine. Updated firmware and installed latest editor. Holy smokes that filter is nice. Really really smooth. This is a very meaty synth. Great sound. Those multi's are pretty generic beats, but the sound is fantastic. Rivals my Quasimidi Polymorph, but much better bass. Can't touch the polymorphs sequencers, but I can't believe I got this at less than $200. Build quality is fair. Feels sturdier than my Radium, but then my Radium is getting old now too and still works like a champ. Sure helps that it is an audio interface. I gotta have this plugged into my focusrite ins, so at least I have some more ins and outs. Might be time to buy a little mixer like my son has.
I can see using this a lot in the mixes. I love it.

Its nice to get a good deal now and then, especially with hardware synthesizers.
Remember, it actually has inputs that you can use for tracks.
It is a mixer also to some degree and you do have control's for those inputs.
Its a powerful little monster.

Hello to the whole M-Audio Venom society!
I'm really tempted by this synth! It's so sad it's been abandoned by M-Audio/Vyzex leaving so many problems unsorted. The thing is that judging by the demos Venom sounds more exciting (at least to me) than the majority of the synths offered on the market today. I only had a couple of minutes to try it on in a shop in Budapest last summer. I live in Bulgaria so no chance to have a listen on the most of the synths. When in Budapest, I was time pressured and wanted to give more time to Novation UN which I find to have very good keyboard, decent build quality, not so bad feeling buttons and knobs, but the overall sound was a bit flat and not so inspiring - well, it was only the impression from the presets. On the other hand these few minutes with Venom showed me its not so bad keyboard (currently I'm looking for a performance synth to complement my Nord Electro 3 so keys feeling is important to me). I'd been reading lots of bad reviews about it, so I just let it go which probably was a mistake. But in a month or so I'll probably be in Barcelona for a couple of days and I hope to find a decent music shop down there.
What I really disliked about Venom was that the only way to change presets is a not so stable feeling encoder (or was it a pot, didn't remember) - could be a problem when on stage...maybe it doesn't sound serious enough
but I'm used to the solid Nord performance and would like to expand it with something I could rely on. All these reports of dead keys, faulty encoders, strange/slow behavior kind of put me away from Venom. But its sound is what really attracts me.. Maybe 200 euro is not such a risk to give it a try, I don't know..And surely that offer won't last forever
Just to note that in recent years I've been trying to compile my rig - the last attempts were with Korg Radias and Waldorf microQ keyboard - both sold now. I'm still keeping my Yamaha AN1x but its too old now, I never get used to its keyboard feel (I know lots of synth players would be surprised) and generally I need something more modern/aggressive sounding but atmospheric in the same time.
Best regards to all of you!
Kalin

I'm running into more and more bugs on the hardware.. But luckily everything has been fixable so far. I wouldn't call this a quality product, but the sound truly is great
Beta maybe really really soon... Tomorrowish

One bug, LFO-1 will sometimes change the start phase parameter automatically.mkdr wrote:I'm running into more and more bugs on the hardware.. But luckily everything has been fixable so far. I wouldn't call this a quality product, but the sound truly is great

Often when this occurs it will read the same but the wave will be shifted.
This is a bug with the current editor.
