found an old weather report video online. joe zawinul's playing this synth on "black market" and as he moves to the right on the keyboard, the notes get lower instead of higher, like it's backwards or some shit. i thought it was a mirror trick, but his rhodes right below it looks normal. i don't know vintage synths... is there something that had a backwards keyboard like this?

Nope- he used an ARP 2600 for that, and inverted the key voltage to pitch. He quite often used two and inverted the voltage on one. By playing the same fingerings on each, he had true counterpoint...

what an interesting idea...did he ever trigger normal to the main synth and send the inverse to a remote unit at the same time? i wonder how that would sound....
KVR: come for the music, stay for the polemics and grammar lessons...

and i guess he could switch the voltage with the flick of switch? cuz for his solo, the keyboard's back to normal. that's wild. it was making my head hurt to watch it.

What about a link to that video?

IIRC, Tobybear has a plugin doing something similar as part of his MIDI Bag.
CubaseStudio4 µTonic/Rapture Nitro/GS-201/Ohmicide/TBK 1&3

tried everything - cant post my groovy info - NO SPAM, LINKS OR ANYTHING are in it. A little too paranoid here, eh???

I have a preset in SynthMaster doing just that.
I think it's even named Black Market....
Anyone has it too?

On a similar note (that's kind of not about the same thing at all :hihi: ), I'm left handed, it's weird that there aren't left handed keyboards... maybe there are, but I've not seen one.

F**k, I'm dumb... I just realised that keyboards are the same mirror imaged

Left handed people play more forcefully on the left hand so there's a long learning curve to compensate this factor, especially when playing classical piano.

Going WAY back, de Haupt's midi munger will allow note remapping, even reverse keyboard work as in this example:

http://www.dehaupt.com/SynthEdit/DH_MID ... To.htm#Ex2

I've not tried it myself, but I did use midi munger a long time ago for something, can remember exactly what it was.

As someone previously mentioned, TobyBear does have something for this as well - Midi Mirror, in his Midibag set of tools: http://www.tobybear.de/p_midibag.html

I just clicked on to what I said, you would need a left handed "piano", but as for controllers you could just "midi learn" all the keys to left handed... maybe

To late, as a leftie I learned to play classical piano since the age of 7.

Well yeah, I play keys too... kind of... but yeah, I play a standard key set-up like everyone else, the idea of "left handed keys" had honestly never even dawned on me, I play left handed guitar, and play a right handed drum kit, but with my own open-handed style, so my hands still work left handed (right hand for snare, left for hats)... I even sing left handed! :P

you could use the free insert piz here midichords to remap notes.

works perfectly.

there was a patch on the arp/rhodes chroma that would do this.
