Talk Talk's The Color Of Spring.

Me thinks the early to mid eighties was the time when you got the best sound out from various records produced in UK. Nineties = lo-fi, 2000 forward = home studios and small budgets, good sound bye bye.

The version of 20th Century Schizoid Man on there makes anything on Never Mind the Bollocks seem very sedate in comparison.

Funny, I was just listening to "Dusk" for the first time in months and it sounds so good that I immediately thought of this thread. Both albums sound excellent.

It's true, there was a time when Squire Fripp really used to wail. :band2: :band: :tu:

+1, and I'll add "Rainy Day Music" to that.

+1 to "Aja"

A few others off the top of my head:

Finn Brothers - "Everyone is Here"
Imogen Heap - "Speak for Yourself"
Grapes of Wrath - "These Days"
Delerium - "Semantic Spaces", "Poem", & "Chimera"

I think most of his solo stuff is really well recorded (the feedback-y bit in 'Wishing Well'...), maybe he was just holding back in HuDU. :)

Never heard a bad Daniel Lanois production. Loved the Neil Young 'Le Noise' album.

Yep. Some might listen to it and think the sound is 'bad', but I don't think I would want that album any other way.

though there are some catchy tunes (and some horrible drum driven blow jobs unfortunately), i don't like the mix at all. it's totally sterile, imo. the only Genesis album, where i like the mix a lot, is 'Lamb ...'.
most horrible is, what they did to 'Eleventh Earl of Mar' on 'Wind and Wuthering'. drowned in reverb. arrrggh.
