Some work related stuff came in the way.KungFuDaz wrote:Any news on the VST editor by MKDR ??
I also ran into trouble again with Venom. The manual is very vague on checksums. I had to brute force reverse-engineer around it. Now that I got that fixed the editor can now save and load patches, Wohoo
I just noticed that a lot of the parameter ranges in the manual are wrong
Does Venoms filter have values in the range of 0-1023 or 0-16383? The thing seems to send 0-1023 but internally it's 0-16383..
When i finally get this done I've lost my mind with this documentation
There's not too long to go now for a Single mode editor. I'd like to get a beta out as soon as possible, this week.

Sounds promising and seems like you have a lot of headaches with this thing, I hope everyone here doesn't mind me saying on their behalf a massive thankyou for your efforts and if there's anything we can do to assist then let us know?
Thanks

Thanks

mkdr, I work in IT and have for many years, so I can appreciate and relate to what you're going through with this beast. Let me add to the sentiments of KungFuDaz with a big THANK YOU for your efforts.

Hello everyone. It's almost a week I got mine (it's my first hardware synth) and i've been playing the presets since.
It seems the latest Vyzex editor 1.11 is crashing at startup on both my Vista SP2 laptop AND XP SP3 desktop with a message something like "Midi quest 10 xl has stopped working" ... or similar. I don't remember the exact message as I downgraded to the 1.06 editor that came with the CD. I don't have any such software on any of my pcs. I've searched the net and it seems this is some kind of synth librarian? or smth. Perhaps it's something Vyzex uses to communicate with Venom. Does anyone have the same problem? Any help much appreciated.
Also, I'd like to join the choir and thank mkdr for his efforts to tame the beast

use the latest editor, uninstall current and reinstall http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=sup ... S=x72#tabs Keyboard series > Venom > your OS
Midiquest 10xl is what was used to make the editor.

Thanks for the reply breakmixer. Forgot to mention that all these where the first thing I did after installing the CD drivers. Now i have the latest firmware installed. Still, Vyzex crashes at startup.breakmixer wrote: http://www.m-audio.com/news/en_us-2002.html update the firmware

The weird thing is that the older version 1.06 is working just fine even with the newest drivers from the website. The latest 1.11 crashes no matter what.
Any ideas?

Try doing a reset, hold 2 buttons on the synth while powering up! Multi/single!thanoskvr wrote:Thanks for the reply breakmixer. Apart from that maybe just a corrupt install, delete/try again maybe.
The editor is buggy, hopefully mkdr will put and end to all this.
EDIT: sorry, if the old version is working just stick with that for the time being until mkdr's venom'ed.

I've still just been playing with the presets, although I got quite a surprise last night. With a lot of things with banks there is a repetition of content. For example, Line6's M13 effects unit has a set of factory presets that are shipped with the exact same presets in banks A-D.
When I heard the Venom had banks A and B as "factory" banks and C and D as "user," I just assumed C and D were either empty or repeated the content of A and B. I was planning on loading the Sonic Boost presets last night to C and D when much to my surprise I discovered they contain two completely different banks of presets from A and B!
Good thing I didn't do that installation without taking a peek first!
There's some good stuff in C and D...

Yeah, I think C & D actually have more useful presets than A & B!Good thing I didn't do that installation without taking a peek first! There's some good stuff in C and D...

Yes, C and D is also the only place you can place your presets. I added Sonic Boost which really increased the amount of good, usable presets considerably. Still there were some good factory presets in the C and D banks and I have my own tweaks.
The editor works for arranging the presets OK. Its good to make a backup as you go along since the editor is a bit flaky.
The good news is, lots of options and lots to work with.
