In the youtube video Steve Duda made for Cthulu, he shows how to setup Live! to export MIDI notes from Cthulu to another track.

Has anyone figured out how to setup Reaper to do the same?

Also, the demo version does allow for this functionality right?

In Reaper wouldn't you just apply the midi effect? You don't have to record into a track in real time.

Take a look at this, it is for Catanya but the same principle applies.

thanks but that does not work for Cthulu

Basically Live needs you to use 2 tracks, in reaper it is only one track, you don't record into a clip in real time but use the function to apply whatever midi effects exist on the track and you get a new take with the outputed midi. You need to then disable Cthulu and then it will let you play the clip nicely (or it should, sometimes as i recall it wouldn't work 100% perfectly, you may get a blank first beat or something else weird.

Have you personally tested this in Reaper?

edit: Got it. Was MUCH easier than all of the Catanaya steps suggested. We were both over thinking it. All we have to do is right click on the track with Cthulu in it and select 'apply track FX to new items (as MIDI Output)' and voila. :-D

btw thanks, braj! You steered me to trying some things that eventually got it.

I just tested it, it definitely does work, make sure you have chords loaded and everything set up correctly. I am missing the first beat though, so make sure you give an extra bar maybe to your clip and trip after applying the effect.

maybe they fixed reaper since you last tried it -- doesn't even miss the first beat.. just right click and select that midi output option.

This is on my buy list now.. :hyper:

And I'm still having the first beat issue. Hmm...

hah well that stinks.

For my next trick.. I'm trying to get Orion to output the midi notes from Cthulu.. this one is proving much more challenging as I don't think the developer ever envisioned such plugins in his host.

Might wait for bitwig studio and go from there.. I'm starting to get tired of dealing with all of Orion's dated flaws. :(

Reaper is in retirement for the most part so no worries, I'm glad you got it working properly though :)
