Here's an article about a couple apps trickling in that support true low latency on android:

Again, looks like it only works on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, or Nexus 10.
The apps are SphereTones https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ones&hl=en and Music Sketchpad 2 http://www.mikrosonic.com/spc

I would love a portable device that can compare to a desktop computer for audio.
I do think that technology still has a little catching up to do in the way of operating systems.
This stuff just never gets handled right because the majority of users don't require it.
I would like to see low latency audio a standard install setting. Being able to further custom tailor a computer or device for low latency operation would be better than any cosmetic feature ever.
I would even go back to 16 , 8 bit resolution.

This is a short video I made showing a song I produced using my ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101 dual booting to Linux, including links in the description on how to:
I don't know if this is exactly relevant, because it's not Android OS
BUT it is on Android intentioned hardware. So if anyone has the hardware and is looking to experiment (root and flash at your own risk, though not too risky or complicated if you follow the instructions in the xda forums completely), have at it!
This opens you up to having a mobile sequencer with soundfont support and tablet keyboard working as a midi controller (LMMS), Hydrogen drum sampler (latency issues, but good enough to export to wav or ogg once you have a pattern down), and Audacity for (very) basic sound recording and fairly decent editing.
Everything used in this recording (except the tablet) is free and open source. There are many other linux pro audio applications, but they don't work as of yet, sound driver support for this hardware is at a minimum at the moment.
Hope someone finds this useful!
Oh, and that's not even mentioning Open Office and GIMP running on this system =)[/url]

The same with meKarmacomposer wrote:Yep. I pretty much gave up on Android (http://www.dbuying.com/cheap/android-phones-496/) zero latency. It's a shame too. The hardware is totally capable of it, but the OS drags it down and they don't seem to care about fixing it.

The FM synth app the Google developers provided seems highly playable on my Nexus 4. Feels like 15ms or less. And FL Studio seems to have next to no latency on my Galaxy Nexus. Not sure why the opposite isn't true, but it's progress I'd say.

Think that it seems it is getting really close and now google released the new NExus 7 and there is some other devices that supports lower latency...
But it is also a slightly annoying that latency would keep people from doing music with Android as the reason why this with the latency is important is if you play live and in this case is it not better to buy a real instrument?
Use Android for making/composing and even with lower or higher latency use midi to try ideas out or record things- adjust slightly if necessary.
And remember if you are using a groovebox type of application like G-Stomper or RD4 latency do not matter and if you use anything with a built in sequencer the same...
What gets to me that many people dismiss Android for music making even though maybe many of them would use only sequencer style applications anyway.
In either case making great music with Android and hear good, good music being made by people every day!!!
Latency high, low or not!
Now off to play with the new Alpha version of Caustic and later to put together my new masterpiece in SunVox using bass from Mikrowave...
It is a good day

Latency is not only about playing live...fine if you just click some loops together but if you want to play and record melodies or drums in a sequencer software or something like a virtual MPC....you are lost. You know, people used to produce like this in the pre Ableton aera...I really don't know why people try to defend this.High latency just sucks.

Not defending just trying to point out that depending how and what you use Android for, with or without latency it has all the possibilities to create high quality music.

Of course it's possible. Everything is possible, with the right amount of work. It's a moot point.musical android wrote:Not defending just trying to point out that depending how and what you use Android for, with or without latency it has all the possibilities to create high quality music.

FYI, we have low and stable latency for recording audio using our own developed USB audio system. Please have a look at our apps Audio Evolution Mobile and USB Audio Recorder PRO.Crabshack wrote:Latency is not only about playing live...fine if you just click some loops together but if you want to play and record melodies or drums in a sequencer software or something like a virtual MPC....you are lost. You know, people used to produce like this in the pre Ableton aera...I really don't know why people try to defend this.High latency just sucks.
