i have just seen this:

just imagine what a new generation of VSTi, VST and DAW can do with such an interface...
workflow in the DAW could be much easier!!!

it's be great for the lab at the Jeffersonian.. Bones and her crew can do all kinds of fancy shit w/it.

but srsly.. smart people will have to find ways to integrate these into complex programs that have lots of fine controls.. not to mention all the quick keys and key combinations for doing various things quickly.. i don't see how this speeds up those situations.

and my shoulders would get tired holding my arms up in the air for hours.

Looks pretty cool if you can just point your finger at the VST and the smart macro says: "You there, VST, make a hit record" and away it goes. Big time saver. Using it to noodle around tweaking verb settings for hours, not so much.

BTW (Full Disclosure): I used an amazing multi-touch alpha-numeric controller using dedicated electron-firing tactile sensors for every letter of the alphabet to create this post. I know, it's the future, but we're living it now!

honestly I imagine a scenario in which you still use the mouse (less fatigue for hands and yes... it's still a pretty smart input device!) but you will integrate hands/finger gesture into your programs.

for example: zoom, expanding, cutting a clip by finger gestures. moving clips here and there...
drawing controller automation by moving an hand (and imagine yourself an orchestra diretor), arming/muting mutliple tracks by moving a finger...

or playing synth drums by using an "air drumkit" (or just your desk!), strumming a virtual guitar while simultaneously playing notes/chords... what about playing a VSTi trombone with this?

how expressive can be a sampled violin if you move your hand as you imagine to handle the bow, instead of a modwheel??
or handling the parameters for a synth, where moving the hands permit you to modulate fxs and harmonic content??

really, it could be a really new experience if developers will integrate it in new programs!

This could be fun for some games or pretending you're Tom Cruise in Minority Report, I just hope I will never have to do any work with such interface, my arms hurt just from thinking of it.

I imagine the problem with this will be the latency introduced by the smoothing algorithms. It's similar to the issue with "paper" apps on the ipad which do some smoothing to get smooth curves instead of a jagged mess but introduce noticable latency as a result.

Have ya'll seen one of these new Dell One 27inch beauties?

The __whole__ screen is touch sensitive!

I demoed one last weekend at the local Microsoft store -- as a long time Mac user I must say I was getting a little jealous!

But maybe I can just get one for single-purpose-use like music production

The spec is also pretty darn decent for around the $1799-1999 mark.

Seriously would love to try one with a couple of plugins on the screen.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon is a great implementation of a large touchscreen, it can switched from vertical to horizontal with almost no effort. Imagine writing music on your keyboard while looking at the screen vertical, then sitting it horizontal for mixing:
