Yeah, bank C and D doubles the available factory presets and I'll agree that some of them are useful indeed. I do find it odd that they're no mentioned by M-Audio at all, and no one seems to be credited either.
I've moved them temporarily in order to load up The Xcee Analog Prime sound set, available for free here
http://www.venomsynth.com/content/thexc ... w-released

Some of these really show what the Venom can do. Very, very good stuff and some quite convincing analog'ish leads/basses/pads worth using without even tweaking :D

Midiquest 10xl is what was used to make the editor.
Thanks for the reply breakmixer. Forgot to mention that all these where the first thing I did after installing the CD drivers. Now i have the latest firmware installed. Still, Vyzex crashes at startup.
The weird thing is that the older version 1.06 is working just fine even with the newest drivers from the website. The latest 1.11 crashes no matter what.

Any ideas?
Try doing a reset, hold 2 buttons on the synth while powering up! Multi/single!

Apart from that maybe just a corrupt install, delete/try again maybe.

The editor is buggy, hopefully mkdr will put and end to all this.

EDIT: sorry, if the old version is working just stick with that for the time being until mkdr's venom'ed.
Important:

Venom lets you do a soft reset or a hard reset.

Soft Reset
A soft reset restores all Global parameters to their default settings. A soft reset will not delete your custom
stored Single, Multi, and Pattern presets.

To perform a soft reset:

Press and hold both OCTAVE buttons simultaneously while powering Venom on.
Hard Reset

A hard reset restores all Global parameters and User Banks (presets) to the factory default settings. Note that
you will lose any custom stored Single, Multi, and Pattern presets when performing a hard reset.

To perform a hard reset:

Press and hold the Multi and Single buttons simultaneously while powering Venom on.

Thats it, keep this in mind as it can solve some issues that simply turning the synth ON/Off will not.

Its good to know that about the soft reset.

With the soft reset it wont wipe your patches.

This is a good thing to try first, just to keep things simple.

It seems a reset is necessary from time to time, it good to know a soft reset will get you back to default.

That way you wont loose your presets.

In case it was not clear on how to do a soft reset:

Soft Reset A soft reset restores all Global parameters to their default settings. A soft reset will not delete your custom stored Single, Multi, and Pattern presets.

Question for you other Venom users -

Does your sync fail out consistently when loading vysex editor? Mine always craps out on bank B of patterns. I go in and re sync it, but don't know why just that bank has issues. Not a big deal really, just an extra step I take after editor opens.

Are any of you setting up the Venom in host with midi sync timing? I just discovered I can arm a track with Venom synth in and route that to venom synth out and enable sync on the output and now I have a venom track that is entirely controlled with the host as middleman. Hit a key, goes to host, host goes to venom engine, then all is synced up for Venom midi clock to host clock.

Hey,

Here is something to try that might help.

When you start your computer, don't turn on Venom right away.

Be sure to start the computer first, then when it is completely booted turn on Venom.

Wait another 60 seconds then try to sync.

It may or may not help but give it a try.

Good luck!

I've been using the order Firebird suggested as well, and have had no problems.

As for the presets, I too am surprised that the number of presets included was not featured more prominently, as in "two full banks of factory presets plus two additional full banks of original presets that can be replaced by users" or something along that line. As I said, I'm just glad I noticed it before overlaying it all...

It is important to note that all four banks are backed up.

You cant loose them.

Simply doing a hard reset restores all presets including banks C and D.

Also, they seem to be backed up already in the editor.

Banks C and D are the only banks you can add your own or third-party.

Doing so does not make you "erase" any factory presets.

They are always backup up in the system.

That's why doing a hard reset restores them.

Just in case anyone was confused.

True, Firebird - poor choice of words on my part! It's more a case of I may not have realized there ever were original presets in C and D that differed in content.

Sorry if I muddled the waters :)

No problem,

Its a learning curve for all of us. Especially since we have an incomplete editor.

Its also very complex since there are so many parameter's.

I figure over the next week or so we will have it running as smooth as possible.

I think it turned out to be a very good purchase.

The keyboard alone is worth the price of admission.

Turning it on after and waiting a bit seemed to work. Thanks. For those others that have it connected but it may not sync with the vysex editor completely, every section is able to manually re-sync if you need to. Mostly if you use the bank view and highlight all on bank B (doesn't matter if its patterns or singles or multi's highlighted, just on bank B) then click on get from venom. You do this per section. Also option on Global panel to sync with venom. It will tell you if not synced completely.

Thank you sooo much for doing this. you sir, are amazing. I hope this will make you a very wealthy man, and you should be in charge of M-Audio.then I would have complete trust in that company.

Again, thank you so much for this. Take your time. I can't tell you how much this means to me. You are awesome, and all currently unlucky venom users will probably be very happy thanks to you.

Mine did arrive too. Very nice!
Will it turn out to be a new 'modern classic'?
For now it sits nice between my other modern classics, Z1, JP8000 and K5000s.

Guys.
I'm slowly getting to grips with the little beast and each day i'm more and more impressed. I plugged in my 10 year old Fatar sustain pedal and it works just fine. Last night i discovered that in multi mode when you play the bass/drums rythms with the left hand (you can hold the rythm wiht the pedal) you can tweak the mod/pitch bend wheels and you get filtering on the drums and different sounds! Just a little extra bonus there. Nice!

I agree with frank3si there that quite a lot of programming has gone in those presets and I'm reluctant to overwrite them yet. They really should have included a couple more empty Banks for user presets though.
