Thank you for detailed answers!
And, indeed, users who don't want / haven't time to design own reverb, can consider B2 as general reverb with presets instead of "algorithm" selection and tweak only Time, Size, Damp and Eq. But may be (although no) separate preset system for "geometry" section would be handy for them (with presets similar to classic "algorithms" like Hall, Chamber, Room etc).
I did think about this exact idea during development... :) Maybe at some point.

Some verbs, including Breeze, pride themselves on "not being able to make them sound bad"... While this is cool for performers/musicians who want to focus on performance/music, it is limiting to sound-designers who want to come up with novel things b/c often allowing huge parameter ranges and experimental things is EXACTLY what allows new interesting things, but is also EXACTLY what can end up making things sound bad in the wrong combination. B2, is about ultimate flexibility and "anything goes". Thus is offers ultimate power to the preset designer... but with great power comes great responsibility as they say...

As we ad more geeky-ness to it we will think about how to offer some kind of easy mode if at all possible...

Post

Same thing is true regarding CPU usage in B2 BTW... we leave it up to the preset designer. If you compare two different presets using these settings:

1) single engine, Nano mode at 1x Oversampling with Mod Disabled
2) dual engine, XTRM mode at 4x Oversampling with Hi Mod Mode

preset 2 will use maybe 160 times more CPU power than preset 1!!!

160!!!

So it's important to keep CPU usage in mind when making presets also. We like to let you explore the bleeding edge of what is possible. That does not mean you have to use it at all times.

Post

...For example, while stress testing the new B2 1.1.0 today which will bring 64bit OSX support, I loaded 1152 instances of a preset similar to the option 1 on my system.

Another preset similar to option 2, well not really... half similar... no oversampling, no modulation (designed to use as much RAM as possible with as little CPU usage as possible compared to RAM usage) I was only able to run 96 of them real-time...

...but as a "abuse the hell out of it and see what happens test" I loaded 400 of them to see if I could crash the host. This brought me up to about 20GB of used RAM in cubase, and was WAY over what my CPUs could actual handle... (fortunately, the system remained stable even under this punishment, and I could not crash despite how hard I tried...)

Image

Have to admit, I felt a little like MythBusters trying to blow something up just to see what happens... :D

(this is part of some tests looking into crash reports with 1.0.0 from hard-core composers who use B2 in huge templates for scoring work for major film/TV/game work... so we've been making things mission-critical and combat ready when facing tough deadlines enforced by menacing film/tv/game producers...) :D

and we are hovering over the finish line for 64-bit OSX... it's all the same task/project...

Galbanum, thank you again for the information. And I think that if you can load 100-1000 instances (well, even if 20 in hard cases) - it is very good and definetely not the cause to care of CPU-efficiency of the patch.

And, when the 64-bit au-version will be released, can I to demo it again, or its evaluation period will be shared with 32-bit version?

To be fair:

1) I have a pretty powerful computer.
2) when I talk about 1000 + instances I am using very low CPU usage presets. This is not quite indicative of the average preset. I can get about 168 instances of the default preset on my machine.

Note however that I use 2010 Xeons. Sometime later this year there may be 12-core Ivy bridge Xeons according to rumors. Two of these in a system will give 24 cores, or 48 threads. This should be theoretically be 4-6 or more times as powerful as my current machine...

Yes, we will reset the demo for the 1.1.0 version.

I hope so!
Finally!

Ya of course.

Existing windows users can try it later today perhaps...

Any existing B2 customer who would like to try the 1.1.0 beta version can do so following these directions:
B2 1.1.0b02

0) Go HERE: http://www.galbanum.com/shop/product_in ... ucts_id=99

1) Select your desired OS format(s) from the drop down menu(s)

2) Add this update to your shopping cart and proceed to the checkout page

3) On the checkout page enter the following coupon code and click on Redeem:

B2_Update

This will change the price to $0.00. There is no cost and no payment info is required.
Then run the installer and select UPDATE.

This process should preserve user presets. If you have made a large library of them and want to be extra careful, you can goto C:\Users\*you*\Documents\2C-Audio\B2\Presets\Full\User and copy these presets to somewhere else temporarily as an insurance policy. If for some reason when you reload B2 you find that you are missing your user presets you can copy them back into this location. This SHOULD be unnecessary. If it does happen, please let us know. This is just an extra precaution since this is the only data we don't have ourselves to give you backups of.

The GUI should look/function 100% the same as 1.0.0, but the code is about 100% different... GUI update should be very fast in this version. It has a ton of behind the scenes things done that no one will really care about directly, but allow us to do cool things in the near future. And this was needed for OSX 64bit support--that's the main goal. And it fixes some memory related issues that effected some users who use massive sessions in scoring work as mentioned...

Give it a shot. Let us know what you find. If there are any outstanding issues mentioned previously, please remind us, and we will take care of them...

Upright Piano and Cello Pizz sent pre-fader into the same instance of B2 Reverb - automating Reverb Time towards the end of the track.

The preset (Dual Dreamer) is included in the zip-folder which contains 55 presets altogether and can be downloaded on this patchpool page:

I stuck the 1.1 beta on, and it seems fine. I've got a project with two B2 instances in it - that I'm working on.

All the presets are there, and it sounds fine. I don't really notice any difference (I think that is how it should be), bu tit still sounds great ;-)

I'll report if anything funny happens...

Great. Can we add these also?

Anyone who has made cool presets, please email them to us at info at 2caudio.

Let us know if we can include them in the 1.1.0 version. You will be given full credit of course. (You should have already tagged your presets by entering in your User Name and User Info on the Info page of the GUI before saving them. Doing this step saves your info into the presets, and then it will show up in the preset browser for everyone to see.) We've wanted to make some enhancements to the Browser for like forever now as well. Maybe we can sneak these into 1.1.0 if there is time, if the damn OSX compiler starts agreeing with us like immediately... :D
