i wouldn't :) as said, a lot of the good ones have someone breathing or other quiet elements that animate them. i'm not a big fan of sampling (...) normally. check about the 1:50 minute mark here for the foley setup (the machine is a bit later but the audio has 'room') -

i'll offer these tips for faster sample collecting - look for the one-on-one fights as you're more likely to have isolated hit sounds instead of lots of "activity". skip any fight scene with music (but check the start and end in case it stops halfway thru). often the "mood" of the conflict has either a lot of vocalisation or little, if it's a "serious" fight.. so you might want to ff through any scenes that have lots of shouting.

rewtnull's channel is the largest single repository i've noticed.
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

Thanks a lot for your help! This is exactly what I love about posing questions on KVR, I get answers that I would never think of myself.

Also I'm a big fan Outdoorverb :) Props for that!

i think that snare or one very similar to it that was used in lots of the hip hop from that era was sampled from a parliment record. Using foley punch sounds from kung fu flicks is a good way to go too. There is a particular snare in stylus rmx that is almost identical which I have used when called upon to produce that style of track.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.
