the loops in the buddha machine are burned onto a small memory chip about the size of a fingernail... when the machine is turned on, playback begins... there is no "real time" generation of the loops. although that would be super cool, its technically way beyond me!!

this is a really cool idea. it's one thing to create an album that is groundbreaking but a whole other to invent a medium to play it back on!

that one bit music thing is really cool! a few years back i wanted to create a device that would play back music as soon as the headphones were plugged in... then stop when they were taken out... and the battery would be non-replaceable. so you would get about 100 listens and that would be it... kind of a self-destructing album... but i never got it done and got busy with the buddha machine instead...

but more power to that one bit music guy! the more things we have like this, the more ideas we can all get about moving beyond the cd as a delivery method for music...

Not sure I like the idea of a self destructing album! But then I suppose how many tracks have I listened to more than 100 times (Apart from boards of Canada's Roygbiv which I've listened to about eight hundred & seventy four times since 1998!)

I like the idea of moving things beyond the CD/DVD as a distribution media. Don't like the idea of MP3 much though. It just feels like a nothing medium to me. For me MP3 has made CD's more desirable because of the physical aspect of them i.e. The actual disk but more so the packaging. I like the idea of evolving the CD/DVD in the face of MP3.

I've just bought the Ohm+ CD/DVD box set. Now that's the kind of package that makes you glad to buy CD's! 3 CD's + one DVD & a booklet over 100 pages long with contributions from the late Bob Moog amongst others. The MP3 equivelent would just be a bunch of files!

Been doing some stuff for my Buddha Machine 2 Combinator patch. Got some nice sounds going on but only a couple of loops at the moment. Want to try & add lots more stuff yet though. I've made the skin already;

NNnnoooo!! My real Buddha Machine has gone belly up! It olny plays half a loop & then resets. Pants!

...... Better late than never!! Finally finished the Buddha Machine 2 Combinator patch ..... seven years after starting it!! To be honest I only just dug it up after clearing out old files. This prompted me to make a Buddha Machine 3 patch. I've upload a zipped file of all 3 Combinator patches to Dropbox. They all use stock Reason devices (i.e. no Rack Extensions or Refills);

Incidentally the real Buddha Machine is up to version 4 now. For those that don't know they are very cool, quirky little devies - a sort of label release on it's own hardware/player! Every home should have one

..... Just finished Buddha Machine 4 Bit different this one. More bleepy / electronic / noise than the previous patches. Hope you like it



The 2 pattern rotaries each control a separate Matrix with 8 patterns each. Pattern 8 on both is empty (hence 'mute'), so you can play patterns solo or mix them together. I did it this way to free up 2 of the buttons from muting duties The 'Sonics' rotaries do general sound mangling but the Mod Wheel also acts like a third rotary for this section.
