hey there,
i'm looking for a jam app (something like rythm studio or beatmaker) with tight and usable Midi Sync (extern).i tried a lot of my apps yesterday but most of them failed hard. Some of the synths were"usable"but even something like the funkbox had a more or less shaky timing.Quite disappointing,i would like to jam with friends or sync it to my Logic. The only one that runs really good without adjusting the midi delay (in logic)was the Fingerbassline.
Of course all other apps or WLAN was shut down (although i think it wouldn't be the dealbreaker on an ipad 4),i tried it with the iRig Midi on ipad 2 and an Edirol UM1-SX with iPad 4 (via cck).
Especially Beatmaker 2 was a BIG disappoint,it was impossible to sync.It was running 1-2 bpm faster than Logic.
btw, could be a nice and solid sequencer only app as well (genome?)but i need to be able to record notes with a (virtual)keyboard and not just step sequencer.
recommendation for a"jam"app with tight Midi Sync

Hi Crab,
I'd like an answer to this too. AFAIK midi sync isn't great on iOS, especially with sequencer apps. Like u say the Finger apps are the best (MoDrum, & Bassline, apparently the dev is working on something new for iOS FYI). I could be wrong, but I don't think there are many apps that aren't going to drift by 1~2 bpm when syncing.
Also, u can record notes in Genome, but I think it has a pattern limit of 8bars, which isn't very helpful. Until an app comes with tight midi syncing, u will just have to record & edit afterwards..

you're right. After a little research it seems Midi clock is still a big disappointment on iOS.But why?I always thought core midi is such a reliable thing...anyway,Sebastian from audiobus gave a hint:"we are working on it"
Whatever it means...

Hi Crab
Generally ios midi is okay at best in my experience - as to why, coz iOS is so young, but it's learning quick. So the simple - yet highly cryptic
- comment from Sebastion could be the vanguard of MidiBus - Something I would buy immediately if it delivered reliable virtual midi, midi sync, network midi over wifi & - if Apple sees the light - midi over Bluetooth (I'd love a BT midi keyboard, that bypassed lightning adapters/wires).
Until then the Finger Pro apps have the best midi sync, apparently due to some fancy buffering, but I don't know the details nor why other app devs don't follow suit. Midi & Midi sync are becoming more & more important to iOS, here's hoping devs take note..
Thanks for the reply, & all the best <3
