http://www.cakewalk.com/products/sonar/ ... +SONAR+all
This is the first I've seen, but I expect there to be lots of software, like Sonar, converted to be touch-enabled. I don't know about the Surface specifically, but I think Windows tablets are going to give iPads a run for their money. It's easier for a company with a Windows product to modify it to work on a tablet than to port the program to run on iOS. Someone had a KVR thread recently wanting Sylenth for iPad. If I wanted Sylenth to run on a tablet device, I'd get a Surface before I'd hold my breath and see what LennarDigital does.

Surface Pro was presented physically at CES. Comments, anyone?

Its not just CPU that saps the batteryt3toooo wrote:i5 running 4 hours on battery?,now that's great!![]()
And obviously an i5 is way more efficient that an old Pentium mobile chip, ie designed to use less power
Theres a hulking great colour touch screen unless you didnt notice, for example
My 6 year old Thinkpad can do over 2 hours on battery

OK. Samsung Slate, 8.5 hours on i5 W8 pro 64.
Expensive but feature by feature the iPad should cost less than half.

Slate looks great, but the price... ouch. However, I agree that compared to an iPad it doesn't look expensive, considering the advantages.liquidsound wrote:OK. Samsung Slate, 8.5 hours on i5 W8 pro 64.

The real problem is, that NONE of the music apps/programs are currently supported by touch interface and apart from Cakewalk, no one is interested.
iPad is now "industry" standard" for touch based music apps and I don't see anyone catching up any time soon

You make ipad sound like its a platform for DAWs. Its not. Its a go between that uses kludges for multiple programs at once and audio interfaces. The slate has the CPU and a standard full blown OS. You can use the slate as full blown DAW, it will work with external keyboard, mouse etc as well as on the move. It can certainly replace PC for current DAW and plugs, ipad cannot.Leslie wrote:The real problem is, that NONE of the music apps/programs are currently supported by touch interface and apart from Cakewalk, no one is interested.

Like it or not, Windows has gone touchscreen, and there is a bunch of hardware that is going to support it. It probably won't be long, and it will be hard to buy a PC or laptop that isn't touch screen.

excuse me but it already is.Do you know auria? Now please tell me it's only an iToy.I even work with it at home instead of using Logic most of the time.I don't know what it is but i am able to make better sounding (pre)masterings than in Logic.Well, this and i am SO tired of using a mouse although it means it slows down my workflow a bit.UltraJv wrote:

And of course i bought most of the Fabfilter and PSP plugins for it.No toys so far.It lacks Midi yet but it's top prioriity on their to do list. And i'm pretty sure (one of?)the first virst virtual instrument,we would see then,is the Fabfilter twin.Along with all the others you can use via audiobus.

Ive heard of Auria yes, sorry im not buying into it. The plugs have to be baked in, they arnt useable by any other apps, so they arnt plugs good luck with the audiobus kludge, . I can make music on a Stylaphone, ever heard of one? Bowie and Kraftwerk used it? Your point is?Crabshack wrote:excuse me but it already is.Do you know auria? Now please tell me it's only an iToy.I even work with it at home instead of using Logic most of the time.I don't know what it is but i am able to make better sounding (pre)masterings than in Logic.Well, this and i am SO tired of using a mouse although it means it slows down my workflow a bit.UltraJv wrote:

iPad is not industry standard whatsoever.
It "was" a lonely wolfe and no "pack". I own an ipad 2 and played with a Surface and a Samsung and man...!
If you still blind out by Apple phobia you will soon be left way behind eating dust.
Beside the fact the the screen is much more accurate and sensitive and responsive you have a "REAL" machine bypassing everything from iTunes to internal absurd restrictions imposed by "GREED" in the first place, making you a boxed user.
All this will be obvious once you will experience one of those "real mean machines" coming out like mushrooms which Apple will have to confront from the Stock Market reality to the end user experience.
Of course there is a lack of dedicated apps but you do understand why right?
W8 doesn't need apps because is a Complete Operating System for God Sake!
Soon you will have such a revolution in DAW portability that Apple will have to go and try to resurrect Mr Steve Job and come up with a solution.
I'm sorry for Steve. He left an amazing legacy to no one.

both the sonar and flstudio offerings are less than impressive for tablet use.
none of them look touch friendly...unles u have super thin hands and the eyesight of an hawk.

Anybody hear when the Surface Pro will be available yet? January's just about over!
I think it will be at least another couple years before we see a significant number, let alone a majority, of people using touch screens for heavy lifting. I think it will take a confluence of large, quality screens that are affordable (they're currently hard to find, expensive and clunky), together with redesigns of the major players like Cubase, NI, etc. as well as a more refined GUI like Windows 9 SP1.
Until then, the i7 ultrabook-tablets like Surface and Lenovo Yoga will be all the rage for their adaptability and portable power.

I agree with Gonga. It will take time for both developers and users to leave the keyboard/mouse paradigm and incorporate touch in the GUI designs and work habits. In the meanwhile, a tablet that can also work as a laptop, and run "real" applications, without any compromises and restrictions, working the way we are used to, is more than welcome, IMO. We can use a device like that as a tablet for tablet friendly apps, and use as a laptop for computer oriented stuff. ALL in the same device, anywehere we go. All in all, that Slate example looks really great - too bad I can't afford it

in less than a week surface pro goes on sale and there's still not a single windows sequencer that is good enough to be used with just touch or stylus.
FL and Sonar have made a timid step...but those are really half arsed attempts to deliver anything really touch friendly(compared to the iOS offerings)....and other major windows developers have not even tried.
why are windows developers being so narrow minded about this.
look at steinberg for example....they just released a pointless iOS version ...when they could have released the real thing in win8pro tablets with just a GUI redesign .
anyway on surfacepro's release the 8th of february...
1)the sky high release price (more than 700£
) 2)the lack of windows software that really takes advantage of windows tablets 3)and the poor battery life...
means i'm gonna give the initial release a miss, hoping windows developers wake up and realize windows8pro and desktop/tablet integration is where the game should be played now.
