Modwheel in Massive

Ok, Massive is amazing. Don't overlook it based on it's reputation as a "genre instrument". It's sound is sharp as a ruler and it can even get pretty warm if you want that.
But - how do you assign modwheel to something without using a macro? The problem I have with the macros is they don't seem to save with a patch, so I'm constantly having to set them up again and again. The word "modwheel" doesn't appear in the manual and "modulation wheel" only appears in the section on "koresounds" which I don't think is relevant to me.
Another question - Each knob has three slots for applying modulation. Is this a hard limit, or are there tricks to perhaps combine some signals? I also don't understand the sidechain slot but I'm fairly sure the manual is just about to explain that to me.

Sounds like the midi options, once you map them go into options, midi and New, name it and then save and it should be the default for each patch. As for modwheel the macros is the only way afaik.

Last time I looked this up the solution is to assign Modwheel to a Macro and that's it.
I think threes the limit as there is no combination module.
Side-chaining sounds odd at first but it's just another way of controlling the modulation amount or how "active" that modulation is.
It's like a modulation dry/wet control
And your right no one should think of this synth as genre specific, it's really versatile. I don't understand the idea of any synth being genre specific.

That was a huge complaint of mine with Massive!! Same thing for expression pedal and breath control... Using a macro is the only way. Massive is not designed for expressive playing. Not that it cannot do it, but NI was not thinking about it and so it is clumsy. This was the main reason I stopped using it.

So? Just assign CC1, CC2, CC11, and other CCs you might use often to various macros and off you go. Then just assign them as regular modulations at will. It's expressive enough, I'd say.

But the lack of modwheel support is genre specific or genre exclusive. Same for Expression pedal and Breath... To me that indicates a target market. Of course one can use it elsewhere, but I would say Massive is an example of a synth that squarely aims in a particular direction.Aiynzahev wrote:

Except lots of existing presets (factory and 3rd party) use those macros in other waysEvilDragon wrote:So? Just assign CC1, CC2, CC11, and other CCs you might use often to various macros and off you go. Then just assign them as regular modulations at will. It's expressive enough, I'd say.

Sure, targeted perhaps, but in terms of it's sonic capability it's name holds true.pdxindy wrote:But the lack of modwheel support is genre specific or genre exclusive. Thanks for the replies. It just seems really odd to me that Aftertouch and velocity are there as hardcoded macros, along with keytracking and a freaking random number generator! But no modwheel. o_O
Sure, this was aimed at electronic dance music producers, but isn't using the modwheel to open and close the filter and/or add vibrato to leads part of a very common/basic synth music practice?

Do you think they designed this with Kore in mind?Sendy wrote:Thanks for the replies. It just seems really odd to me that Aftertouch and velocity are there as hardcoded macros, along with keytracking and a freaking random number generator! But no modwheel. o_O

I stand corrected by yours truly You can just use Midi Learn for any parameter, wiggle the ModWheel, bypass the macro's. Doesn't that solve the issue?
EDIT: and for your other question, the amount of modulation slots is indeed limited to the boxes you see. But I figure that once you get to that many modulations on one parameter, it makes sense to start modulating the modulators directly, i.e., use an Env to control the LFO Amp, and route the LFO to the designated parameter.

Yes, they did, that's why 8 macros correspond to 8 Kore controller knobs.Aiynzahev wrote:Do you think they designed this with Kore in mind?

Yeah, except they didn't match them up well - the original factory controller page for Massive splits the macro knobs across 2 user pages, they don't map 1:1. I ended up creating my own version that puts them all on user page one where they should have been all along:EvilDragon wrote:Yes, they did, that's why 8 macros correspond to 8 Kore controller knobs.Aiynzahev wrote:Do you think they designed this with Kore in mind?
