Poking around out of boredom and found this!

http://www.kasploosh.com/projects/CZ/11 ... nique.html

It's an extension of Sealed's page where he talks about the "hidden" waveforms and features you can get from the CZ synths. And he made a readout graph of EVERY single waveform/waveform/window combination and posted a sound clip of each one.

Sadly, he didn't involve the waveform envelope, so you're only seeing and hearing the topmost level of each of these waves, but it's enough to see that you can get a lot more experimental sounds that Casio didn't ever think you'd need. There's also a bunch of extra noise and ring modulation modes you can access.

If anyone ever makes a VST CZ emulator this is an invaluable guide (and the extra "easter eggs" should definitely be included because they're awesome!).

Also, I found out that CZ stands for Cosmo... Z..... Zynthesizer

BTW, while I'm talking about this I'd like to get off my chest how I think it's weird that they included the "Square/Saw" waveform, because in all instances it's sound is next to indistinguishable between the normal saw (which is really a half-sine, I guess). If you can tell the difference between Saw and Square-Saw with one other sound playing, you have better ears than I!

Oh, very nice. Thanx for the info. :)

Thanks for the heads up Sendy. I was aware this stuff existed from the (sadly vanished) Deep Synthesis pages but have never seen it fully documented before. Now I just needs a PC-CZ1 editor that can invoke all that strange magic and the world will tremble before my buzzy pulse wave leads :borg: :tu:

Thanks for the link. I have a CZ-101 which I picked up at a flea market for $10 many years ago, and I've never really gotten into programming it very much. I'll have to read up on these "hidden" waveforms!
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

It looks like his CZWIGOUT includes the hidden features. It's a software that creates random patches and is compatible with the whole CZ line.

Not so useful to me so I'm waiting for the CZSYSEXY instead. I contacted the developer and he said he's still working on it. It will support the hidden features too :)

EDIT: Btw, I have been trying to backup my patches following these instructions. I can transfer the sysex data from my CZ3000 to my PC without problems. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work the other way around. I don't want to mess with any editors if I can't be sure I can restore my patches. Has anyone sent sysex to a CZ synth successfully?

EDIT 2: Removed link to my patches that wouldn't work. After a lot of trial and error I finally found out what the problem is. The CZ sends back sysex data that has incorrect code in the beginning. I have figured out how it should be written so I'm able to send patches back to the synth now :)

The editor CZSYSEXY I mentioned in an earlier post is released. It supports the CZ-101, CZ-1000, CZ-3000, CZ-5000, and CZ-1. The description says "It knows about all the hidden features that have been adequately documented."
