I'm nearly done with my entry. Just debating about whether to put some vox on top or not...

Good to see/hear Fitch back in the comps :D

Hello hello...

I listened to some (all?) of the songs yesterday ( there must be new ones in there I have to listen to ) and wow, there is some serious talent in here. A wide variety of styles.
I have a question. I have a hip hop instrumental that I composed 2 days ago.

The song uses orchestral instruments and such.

However, I do not rap at all.. I mean.. I am horrible.. so, for exactly 30 seconds I have an accapella of Tupac Shakur rapping over it. I wanted to see how it would sound with a rapper over it, and I like it. I think Tupac would be proud :)

Amyway, the song will be 2 minutes long, but can I leave Tupac in there for 30 seconds, and submit this as a remix, or something?

Also, if I am allowed to submit it, can someone please host it for me?

For Fitch,

A little hello below.

Hello Fitch. I make electronic music and use a lot of strings and orchestral sounds and really admire the fact that you play your cello to beats. Very well at that. I want to do the same thing very soon with the violin. I played the violin as a child, for 8 years, but quit at age 15. I got tired of playing classical music.

Now I am turning 30, and it's been calling me. I picked one up a few years back and was able to play, so I'm hoping for a smooth ride. I'll have to practice at least 1/2 hour day every day, as I used to.

I am still trying to figure out if I should get an acoustic and mic it or get an electric, perhaps a yamaha silent violin.

Anyway, I'll be trying to do what you do so well with the cello, with my violin. Wish me luck!

If you have an opportunity to hear some of my songs, and like what you hear, let me know. I am down to do collaborations :)

I have three old songs up right now if you click on the link below. The first one is a lot more "hardcore" then the two others so you might want to skip the first one ( unless you love hip hop? ).

Well you can all be truly afraid now. I'm probably going to pull together an entry this month. 'bout time I did, anyway, I guess. "Free For All" is the only way I could have entered because when I start a tune, I have no idea what form it's going to take when I finish it. As a for-instance, I once deliberately set out to write something ala ELP's "Abaddon's Bolero" - it came out sounding like Oingo Boingo. I wound up calling it "Abaddon's Lambada". I still have it around - I may trim it to fit for a future contest - got another idea in mind for this one.
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

Thanks a lot Vurt :) I just e-mailed it to you.

Oh hey, I agree! Problem was that I was shooting for ELP when I started! I'll remaster the whole thing one of these days (wife's after me to cut her a CD of all my early Jurassic efforts anyway) and post it up so folks understand that when someone says to me, "Write a [insert style here] tune", there's very little chance that style will appear at the other end of the process. :help:

Pm'd you right back :)

By the way folks, who votes? Is it only the people that submitted songs, or only kvr members? I hope so.. otherwise everyone is going to tell their friends and neighbors to vote for em if anyone can vote:)

Just curious as I was unable to locate info regarding the voting process. Do we each vote once? Or do we each vote for who we believe to be the top five? So five times each?

Thanks

any K-v-R member can vote (as long they have 20 posts or more - although i forgot that rule myself last month - oops) ...

... entrants MUST vote if they want to be in with a chance of winning - no vote equals DQ

Mine is up in some record time. Now I do not have the constraints anymore of having to work on headphones only to allow the neighbourhood some sleep. :D

After only one day in a studio I do not expect any grammy awards, but some cordial handclap would be in order.

I promised our friend, Mr. Atonal Wopelka that I will do some atonal thingy. This does not really conform to the classical rules of atonality because I don't know the classical rules of atonality and I gave it some strong melody. I guess that makes it non-tonal and not atonal. :-o Do you know how hard it is doing an atonal melody  Next time I'll even try to add some guitar improvisations and maybe a guitar solo in an atonal song. :D

A lot of synth tracks, many free. Was fun doing. Hope you enjoy.

Incidently, the melody actually means something. A special price for the one who can guess.
