---I love the sounds of the Mellotron and came across these two apps, they both sound very good but support is hard to come by. Evidently the M-3000 is a reworked Ellatron but the demo videos for both appear to be the same thing. I've written to the company asking for help but it seems the person who actually knows these programs is on a holiday.
I went ahead and bought the Ellatron because if they're really the same why pay more for the M-3000? Have any of you bought either of these apps and do you know what the differences are between them? I've also asked about midi and was told that Apple is changing the rules on app makers which might be true but others are doing it so why not this company?

Post

---Nobody? I've contacted what I thought was their company since their demos are on the site but they say they have nothing to do with the Ellatron. Weird!
So far no technical support and the person that is replying tells me that he's not getting rude with me but he sure isn't helping either.
Evidently the Ellatron has been abandoned and is still for sale in the iTunes store and the videos are linked to the M-3000 Mellotron and they mention it but they don't seem to know anything about it other than it's not their app...

Post

It's peaked my interest in the past, especially since they had stated plans for core midi, but nothing seems to be happening.

Are these the guys you contacted? http://twitter.com/omeniesoftware

The Ellatron is an old app, almost two years old now, and the developer stopped supporting it like, more than a year ago.

It's not of much use anyway, you can't record anything you play, I don't think...I know you certainly can't share your recordings either - no pressure velocity and a dated interface? Who would want that in this Animoog world?

Post

---Conundrum, I did contact those people and the ones who have it on their site with the M-3000 (click on the demo for the Ellatron and you get the M-3000
yet according to the M-3000 people that have nothing to do with the Ellatron. If the app isn't being supported anymore somebody should say so on the site so when you make your purchases you know what not to expect.
As for the Moog app, they really don't do the same thing do they? I love my Moog app but if I want a Mellotron I can't really go to that for it.
Thanks for ya'lls replies...

I also wonder which app to get for Mellotron sounds.

SO far I found :

- a Soundset for SampleTank
- Mellotronics M3000
- Ellatron
- Manetron

I need to be able to play this via MIDI Keyboard, of course.

Any thoughts on those apps ?
Which would be considered the best ?

BS-16i is going to have audiobus any day (the 1.7 version has already been submitted to apple, and should be released any day now). There are plenty of high quality Mellotron soundfonts available.

You ought to at least consider this route, since it may be the best route available if you, like me, insist on audiobus and quality. This is a full-blown high quality soundfont player!

Here's the app. $8.99

Edit: Here's the Mellotron soundfont that Digital Sound Factory is selling, but there are many free soundfonts available--not just for mellotrons either ;-)

The BS-16i is a really great app! It's one of my favorites!

Here are some free ones (but there are many more--just do a google search):

Hope this helps!

P.S. Also, check out the app on Youtube to see what it is capable of doing. It really is a great app!

---Sean, thanks for the great reply. I've found a lot of great soundfonts (not just great Melotrons) for my BS-16i and was just getting ready to try and find their website to see how to turn off the background audio so I could use the great sax I have from another app without having the BS-16i playing in the background...Thanks for your post...

Cool! You have it already! Audiobus will be here any day!!!

I believe there are tutorials as well that show you how to do it if you don't find it on the web site. Let me know if you have problems, and I'll see if I can find the info for you. :-)

Wait, are you talking about the demo Midi song? You can unload it to turn it off. Otherwise, I'm not sure I understand...... :?

---thanks very much for your offer to help that's appreciated. I love the soundfont's I've loaded into my BS-16i and want to use them but I also have this great sax sound on another app that I also need to use and I can't figure out how once I've used the BS-16i how to mute it or turn it off so it doesn't sound when I'm playing the sax. I'm thinking the background audio function is on but I can't see where to turn it off.
Thanks, once again...

Scott, another option you can do is put each app on different MIDI channels. If your keyboard allows, program a patch that sends to the MIDI channel you need. If not, then just change the global MIDI channel on the keyboard. In addition, if your iPad apps have background audio (which bs-16i does), you can control everything from your keyboard and not have to fiddle with any app options. Maybe you already know all of this, but figured I would mention. I am using both bs-16i and iGrand Piano this week and went this route. iGrand is on channel 13 with bs-16i on channel 1.

---Excellent suggestions and much appreciated. I'm looking forward to the day when Audiobus or some app will allow us to have patch set list from different apps ready to call up without any fuss. I have so many great apps and getting to them live is almost impossible so I just don't use but one or two, this just seems like a real waste of super resources...
Thanks for your reply, after this weekend I'll start working on that...

You could look into setting up a custom panel in TB Midi Stuff. I've heard of others doing this very thing.
