Professional technicians are assessed by the abilities they possess.
Amateur technicians are assessed by the tools they possess - and the amount of those tools, with an obvious preference to the latest hyped ones.

OK.
You seem to have nailed it
Now for the the next level : can you Lo/Hi threshold ? that is : user definable low/hi frequencies.
And one last thing : is there any harmonic regeneration mechanism going on there ? I could not sense one...
because if were to be nitpicky, an "Enhancer" is a COMBINATION of an EQ (of some sort) AND harmonic regeneration... (well, at least that is the "classic" type of enhancer).
Anyway, thanks !!

The only thing I could not detect is harmonic regeneration.bbaggins wrote:At first I thought they might be harmonic exciters, but they aren't - no audible harmonics are being added.
I observed no phase changes,
no M/S processing,
no delay-based widening,
no dynamic processing.
They appear to just be two-band filters, giving a boost around 200Hz on the low side and a larger boost at 8KHz on the high side. I was able to duplicate the effect pretty closely using a parametric equalizer. The only difference between the two plugs seems to be slightly different EQ curves.
But maybe I'm missing something. Sinkmusic, I know you're not the programmer, but perhaps you have some insight into just what these effects actually do?
But yea, the BBE has something going on with the stereo field... and apparently has harmonic regeneration. that is, to the best of my knowledge, the definition of an "Enhancer".

The original BBE had to do with phase adjustments. Subtle delays shifting the relationship between high and low bands, which in turn give rise to the clarity you get using it. Sort of like a cousin to an EQ but not dealing with adding gain necessarily; as well as maintaining a reciprocal relationship between the highs and lows. They are not based on harmonic generation or excitement. The aphex stuff was made for harmonic generation.

I did check. it was like Chinese to me...ElementsPlugins wrote:Tp3,
If you checked that thread we mentioned above i am sure you could find all the info about plugin inner works, including the schematic it was modeled after and possible ways to do it.
Remember this is someone else's code ported to VST. Any change would violate author's permissions.
You are welcome, i am glad the issue is solved!
Well, I can live with what you have given us. THANKS !!

To the best of my knowledge, there is no formal definition for "enhancer". A developer could call just about anything an enhancer (or "sonic maximizer" or "soundgooderizer") and there'd be no grounds for a false-advertising complaint because the word has no objective meaning. But yea, the BBE has something going on with the stereo field... and apparently has harmonic regeneration. that is, to the best of my knowledge, the definition of an "Enhancer".
This particular plugin is a simple filter. Well, actually two (postive-gain only) filters with a fixed Q. All you have to do is feed white noise into it, insert an instance of SPAN after it and start moving the sliders. What the plugin is actually doing will quickly become apparent.

I do not agree.bbaggins wrote:To the best of my knowledge, there is no formal definition for "enhancer".But yea, the BBE has something going on with the stereo field... and apparently has harmonic regeneration. that is, to the best of my knowledge, the definition of an "Enhancer".
Audio terms are open to interpretations but I have settled (thank to "sound on sound" magazine) with one that suitable for me.
This is VERY WELL a definition for an Enhancer (or : Exciter - as "Aural Exciter" belongs - legaly, IIRC - to Aphex... so other companies call it in all sort of names).
ElementsPlugins, what is the "SonicEnhancerVST2_optimizations_off" thingy ?
