Talked to the tech at GC last night about getting the RG fixed up.

Replace switch, fix wiring, replace pots... $180
Cost of new pickups for it: $270
Install new pickups: $75

Total to p1mp up the RG: $525

I wonder if I can survive on just one guitar for a few months? :help:

For me, I wouldn't pay more than $800 for a guitar since it's JUST A HOBBY and I don't play every day and I don't play out.. :? :? $4,250.. :-o :o

Some EPIcness from the new Epiphone - man I'm loving this thing. I'm doing the February Album Writing Month challenge and got some hair band vibe going last night with it.

umm...maybe I should start charging people, what a scam...replace switch, pots and pups (plus whatever minor problem there is with the wiring) for 255 dollars.

Pots 6 bux each
switch 10-15
wire 50 cents (probably too high because they but in bulk)

When I replace pups I almost always change the switch (or switches) pots and jack because I hate soldering to a used terminal...if I'm changing pups might as well change it all. But you have to wire to the switch or to pot when change pups anyhow. So let's say it's 30 more in parts that's 225 dollars in labor alone? That's like a hours worth of work at most (with breaks) so this guy wants to charge more than 200 dollars an hour? My mechanic doesn't even charge that

Check this one out, it's already been upgraded with the Crunchlab and Liquifire:

The seller originally had the starting bid at $1,000, then raised it as the auction went along.

ESP has a few EC401's left that they're blowing out for cheap. The EC401B Baritone would probably be cooler for you, though.

Here are some Les Paul's worth checking out, particularly the first two:

It does seem stupid expensive to me.  But my options are kind of limited since my soldering skills are minimal and the 2 techs I emailed that work locally couldn't get to me for a couple of months..

Well, I play my Strat 90% of the time, and I'm happy with it the way it is, so.. not a huge loss or major change of plans.  I'll just do my guitar-and-vocals thing for a few months, throw money on the prepaid credit card, and see what happens... :scared:

..this of course doesn't mean I'm not lusting after a new axe, just that it's going to be unrequited lust.. :help:

That's BS.

EMG and Seymour Duncan both have pre-wired solderless pickup systems for around $200-300 that you could install yourself in minutes. The EMG is the easiest since they allow you to specify EXACTLY what pickups and components to use:

http://www.emgpickups.com/products/index/67/11/1

The Seymour Duncan will take only slightly more effort effort since it's geared specifically to strats, you'll have to snip out the second tone control and then choose your pickups on your own:

I clicked through these 3 links, and not one of them turned up a Les Paul. I got a nice Ibby and a couple of nicely priced PRS SE's.

Then I clicked on again and got a few more different guitars. It's actually quite nice, kind of a random guitar generator link. :hihi:

You never know what's going to turn up.

If only that could happen in real life. :hihi:

When I clicked them, I got the same 3 PRS Single-Cuts that I intended to link to. They were never supposed to be real Les Paul's because I know Hink detests buying big brand names. ;)

hibidy sent me some info on that bari, it's really not for me because I by the summer will really have the swiss army knife of baritones. I ordered the "Z" bari body (finish to be seen when it's done, 'till then it's top secret :hihi: ). I did ditch the streo concept (for now and the MM has stereo I think) because I did order the body H-S-H so in the middle will go that JB Jr. wired with an on/on/on for series/split/parallel and of course the p-rails will be in there and one Artec QDD2 pre-amp...it could take three months though because of the finish which is no problem for me (stew mac order already on the way).

I thought about a whammy on the bari (the MM has one) but I use so many different tunings the only one that is locking I would want is a wonder bar.

Now I'll go and check out those Paul's but before I do...what's up with Gibson being bigger jerks than Fender (never thought that was possible) with trademark stuff and Warmoth? That's stupid imo, Fender has a deal with Warmoth, Jackson does, but Gibson says no? Worse a Warmoth Les Paul never was a set neck, they were bolt on so imo a lot of people would still buy Gibson. :?

I like the second and third but I have to wonder what EMGs it uses...it says it has a coil splitter...must have an 89 in the neck at least  Still those look cool (remember I'm not a fan of chrome especially pups)...still a stop bar I guess but it doesn't have the span between the bridge and the bar and that's what I find uncomfortable. So those if they played well work for me :)

not true, I dislike the marketing of amp sims with brand names, I detest buying from Gibson and Fender because I think both companies need to get taken down a notch they are poison to the industry imo and hurting us all with their over the top pricing and in that case you are paying for the name and a status symbol imo (they are not alone though, I would not buy a Suhr for instance). Ibanez, LTD, Daion, Warmoth, Jackson and Ovation are all brand names and I own all (tbh Ibanez was kind of on that list too but I am glad I bought what I did, love that guitar and I bought it used)
