I thought it was aimed at Pro Tools users that wanted a cheap alternative originally? If you're a heavy midi user Reaper is not your DAW. I have a license and tried it for awhile, but it's obviously aimed at audio production and I'd have to have a lobotomy to sort out all those menus. :)

They are working on multiclip q/h. That's significant (no I don't care about fight club, someone needs to know it's not just paint they are working on)

Yup.

Even in the last released version 3.32 (?) there is some real improvements to midi, in the pre release it is only getting better!

I'm all for it. Hell, I may even start using it again (I have some dandy projects I did in reaper!) As some know, I kinda went over to live but I made the mistake of trying live 9, which has some issues, and now I'm confused

If they add a session view + launchpad I will hardy look at Live again!

I think they kinda tried that with regions once? Maybe they implemented it, I don't remember, I can't keep up.

It is hard for me too, I only discovered their multi midi editing stuff by sheer luck, I was going to their forum to see about automap IIRC, cause I haven't used Reaper for sometime and by sheer chance someone in other thread said "just select some tracks items open one of them and press F" (BTW in the near future you will not need to press F) and it seems magic! :hihi:

Anyway as far as I can tell with regions they implemented some kind of Reason's Blocks, also very easy, select region -> right click -> make region and you can move and copy versus and choros around (although not clone/link them, I think).

Reaper is getting easier to use, I never though I would see the day :o

I went from DIE HARD reaper fan boi to not because they went such a long time w/o really improving anything. (like a year or something, other than a few little things) Now, they are kinda back on the case. Yeah, I like to see it.

Im an assistant engineer at a reputable studio here in burbank california
The owner removed his protools and replaced it with reaper, i asked him jerry why did we swith to reaper
He sez go and get acquainted with it, i like some of the plugins in protools but afterusing reaper wow the workflow
Is amazing, if you have the funds to purchase hi end 3rd party plugins , then reaper is the daw for you
The layout is simple its not buggy, great skins, unbelievably small size daw, on protools and logic ive noticed to do the simplest
Things it takes a bit more , reaper lets you concentrate more on the artistic aspect rather than just the
Technical, just my thoughts fellas :)

I actually think the midi is fantastic on it, no offense 80%of my workflow is midi
And quantizing, the midi options are right on the money, i mean everything is
All there

Not at all imo, mmv. They initially kinda missed some really basic midi stuff through the first 4 versions but like Hibidy says, they're fixing a lot of that so, it will be better soon.

Great DAW imo, but for the way I personally work with midi it all becomes a bit of a mess unless I slow down to avoid some of the issues that result from doing what I typically do in some other sequencers. That's probably much less the case for EDM or hard on the grid stuff though.

The improvements they're making now will make it much better in lots of ways... so... that's a good thing.

But yeah, if it's midi was already great they wouldn't need to spend 2-3-4 months working on adding something that every other good sequencer already has. They're not oblivious to those issues.

I would love the newer DAWs like Reaper and Studio One to get some MIDI music notation/scoring facilities. I am wondering if this could be done via a plugin style interface - the MIDI equivalent of the ARA stuff they developed for Studio One and Melodyne.

If you could share MIDI data from one of these DAWs and pass it back and forth between a Finale or Sibelius "plugin" and the other MIDI editors then each set of DAW developers wouldn't have to re-invent the wheel.

There's already a MuseScore plugin for Reaper available: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=75789

Granted, display only, no editing. But it's something at least.

I often wonder why nobody makes a scoring plug kinda like Melodyne (or rather, do they?), where you'd just load a VST plug for all that, and it runs in sync with the project and maybe imports / exports Music XML or something.

I mean, if Finale could be encapsulated into a VST plug and run in a DAW window like Melo ARA, that might work rather well.

The VST API wasnt designed to pass the kind of data a score needs, ie all events across the entire duration of the work; it only really deals with events which are 'now'. Thats why Celemony had to come up with ARA in the first place. They say they've implemented it as an 'extension' to VST, but I suspect it replaces the usual processing model with something that's quite different. So anyone doing that would have to do the same sort of thing.
If the ARA API were available to other plugin developers it might be possible, but I suspect it might be a DAW-side-only SDK. If that's the case, doing the same sort of thing would require an ARA-alike API from scratch. And dont forget that doing it would mean that the mechanism (ARA or ARA-alike) would have to be implemented in the plugin and the host.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."
