I'd love to fork over $$ for Sylenth1, but to be honest... the fact it hasn't been updated for so long is a bit of a let down. With no news, I'd rather put my money elsewhere.
What would you guys recommend over it?

I never understood people either who want to buy Sylenth but don't because it doesn't have shiny new updates every month? Like someone already said, it works in Windows 8 (also 64 bit), so probably will work for a long time. Most hardware synths don't get updates either (yeah, access does) - certainly not after 5 (or so?) years. And that doesn't stop people from buying them.V'ger wrote:What's wrong with no Sylenth1 updates if it's the sound you like best anyway?
If you like Sylenth, buy Sylenth

I really understand the OP.
Sylenth sounds REALLY good but Lennard is a sort of phantom developer compared to the very responsive/handsome devs of U-He, DiscoDSP, FabFilter, Xfer, etc etc*
Buying an U-He synth i know that Urs will support and improve the product adding new filters, effects, features but when i buy Sylenth i doubt even about compatibility and bugfixing upgrades.
On a side note third party improvements like custom skins and user ideas are strongly encouraged from Urs when from Lennard are, at least, ignored.

The combination of u-he DIVA and D16 LuSH-101 provides you with a very wide range of sounds and for us, these two most of the time are enough. Add FXpansion Synth Squad and DiscoDSP Corona and there is no more excuse.. with this package, you should be able to make practically any synth sound imaginable.

Ime nothing sounds really like Sylenth.
Yes, its a VA but it certainly doesnt sound "analog" in the sense "similar to ancient hardware synths", so no escape from this side with replacing it with more accurate analog modelling synths imo.
Actually Sylenth has a sonic signature of its own. Some people are fond of it, or some less. I'm not a total Sylenth fan, but well I reckon it has a distinguishable sound, and something unique.
Sylenth updates are slow, but there are some. Including the last one for Win8.
My KOrg legacy collection has not been updated for ages, except for compatibility with new os/systems, and yet it sounds as good as the 1rst day I got it. Same with ImpOscar.
So I dont see too much worries here.
There seems to be a story between LD and KVR, as the developper choose to have his forum here, and doesnt seem to appear a lot, but when I bought a 2nd hand Sylenth licence to be able to play the Sylenth patches Kelvin made for Le Lotus Bleu, the transfert was made within a day. So I'd say it seems unfair to me to say that the deveopper is not responsive. At least he was very responsive to handle my case.

this is a wrong rumor, it's quite light on cpu.paulm12 wrote:
Another warm one is Fabfilter's Twin2. It has a clever modulation system and has some really fantastic presets. Define check it out too. Like ACE, I've heard it's CPU hungry.
Finally!

You don't want to use sylenth, because it hasn't be updated? Well, I have own it years, and it hasn't been crashed ever. It works very well and it sounds awesome. What's the problem? There was update for fixing win8 issue lately and Lennard has told himself that they are working on new product. My guess that is sylenth 2, or something totally different. But I don't understand this "it's not updated, i'm not gonna use it". If it is working, who needs updates, ffs..

I think it's because when something is as cool as Sylenth actually is - you want more of that coolness. But I agree with you. It's still a remarkable synth. The only thing I hope for is that he won't go hardware dongle with his next product. Totally possible though.keel wrote:But I don't understand this "it's not updated, i'm not gonna use it". +3 for Z3TA+. But I'd put Harmor in the mix as well.

i love sylenth1, it's one of my go-to synths. but it's frustrating; it NEEDS to be updated. am on a mac, using it with the 32-bit bridge in Logic; not perfect, but it works. i've tried phasing it out, but...am keeping it for now. it's too good.
z3ta+2 was cool, but NOT in Logic; serious issues, which cakewalk is NOT fixing. otherwise, really like it
dune it a good one, diversion is AMAZING (but nothing like sylenth1)
been trying to get the developer to respond to requests for updating (ie 64bitAU for mac, or...ANY updating), but no response for a year.
so it goes...it's a simple, but GREAT plugin.

When you get something right it doesn't need a lot of updates and revisions. Sylenth is awesome and you won't get another synth that sounds just like it, especially one so easy to use.
Sonic Academy's A.N.A. definitely has some Sylenth in it, and comes close in some respects, but also adds complexity. If you don't want to buy Sylenth, then check out A.N.A., but it's not Sylenth.
Personally, I'd buy Sylenth because it's really that good. Despite all the bashing the developer receives here on KVR, I've found Lennard to be very responsive whenever I've had an issue.
