I'm just a newbie who didn't actually follow the development of ipad for music production, so hopefully someone can help me here.
Can I use ipad as a multitrack player which connected to an audio interface with multiple output channel?
If this is possible, can you recommend me the audio interface (with at least 4 output channels) and the apps that can play multitrack audio and handle the routing to those output channels?
Thanks!

You cannot go wrong with Auria as a multitrack application. The Focusrite iTrack Solo or Tascam IU2 should fit your needs but they are only two channel devices. Come to think of it you may be better off with the 4-channel Alesis IO Mix, which enables you to dock your iPad as well. The problem with using a camera connection kit is that you can't charge the device while you're doing work with it.

Thanks for that.
Alesis IO Mix looks perfect apart from 2 output channels. The Focusrite and Tascam iU2 also only have 2 output channels.
I'm hoping to find a solution that enables me to send different tracks to particular channels, and maybe one channel to handle the metronome click.
