This is a pretty cool sequencer, you can create/edit your own patterns that can then be transposed automatically to some chord sequence you define. Patterns and chord progressions can then be launched à la Live's session view.

Beside notes, you can edit pitch bend and most CC's, but no aftertouch

Pretty cool for a live setup firing some external hardware or plugs on a laptop or another ios synth.

Off course you can use pre-defined patterns and use the included sounds but ...

I tried it with my motif xs rack as you can select directly the motif sounds, but there's a bug, or user error, if I enter the keyboard view it sends the app patch and bank instead of keeping the one from the motif. :x

Also when using an external keyboard it won't send the midi to the selected external output, annoying.

I find this easier to use than genome and being able to remap automatically to some chord progression is pretty neat.
Not bad for a yamaha app :hihi:

Can you assign each of the 8 tracks to a different midi channel, having it control other apps via virtual midi?

Post

Each track sends to a different channel (1-8 ). You can select the midi ports I/O on the pref page but you can't tell it to send channel 3 to a specific port, maybe this could be done with midi bridge.

Anyway, just tried with animoog wich allows to filter incoming channels and it works well, animoog received the midi clock as well.

You can turn the sound off but that's for all tracks, if you want to have some tracks external and some using the internal sounds you have to turn there volume down, wich will send a cc7 to the other app and may turn there volume down as well.

Exported midi files can only be retrieved via itunes, hate that.

I hope they will make this app a bit better to work with external apps or gear, but globally this is pretty good, in song mode you can record midi normally like in a linear sequencer.

Thanks, got it. Will probably get it before the intro price runs out, looks like a useful and fun midi sequencer.

I have not used my iPad for actual sequencing for about 2 years. I had NS, BM2, etc.... but found them in the end to be too much work around, and not enough creating. So I have been using iPad (now mini) as a synth module, for Maschine and Logic.

I could not resist getting this, since back in '98 the QY70 got me into the whole eMusic scene. I like this app. Just futzed around with it for about an hour, and it is a lot deeper than I thought it would be. I found it easy to drive Anamoog and BS-1 with it, impressive. My little Mini cant handle a lot, but it's still fun to mess with. I can really see me using this app to create the basics of a piece, and move it into Maschine/Logic. I built in sounds are cheezy (just like the QY) but to sketch out something, they will work fine. Makes me think I just might get an iPad 5 when they come out......

Is it possible to synch start recording of patterns or otherwise import bits of midi from elsewhere and if so how?

Thanks

You can't import midi files.

You can record midi though, but the midi sync is a bit a mess as sometimes it doesn't send the start stop messages.

The easiest I found is to go in song mode, start recording, switch to the other app and start play. Then enter the recorded part in the piano roll, select all, copy, create a new pattern and paste. While recording the mobile app was sending the clock to the other app, so things are timed up correctly. You can always offset all events at a time so it's not big deal if the events are a little off.

I just tried from funkbox without using midi sync, just starting manually and setting both tempo to the same value and it looked good, just had to offset all notes a little but it's no big deal, select all and use the move tool, snap off or on to your liking.

This morning I had some fun, sending the midi to my laptop using wifi, and listen to it using my wireless headphones, "mobility" with great sounds. 8)
