Huh? There is a wet and dry as separate controls in the NI compressor. And it allows for external side chaining which means you can do the filtering yourself. Or is this a major PITA in Logic for the master bus? If it is, you can quite safely use the pre- and post-emphasis technique I mentioned earlier. It works extremely well for ALL your processors that don't contain internal sidechain filters (and is a proven oldschool method for getting stuff to tape the way you want it).TheoM wrote:Ok.. Here is an audio example of the pre/post emphasis technique using Pro-Q. I used the Duende SSL bus compressor which has no built in HPF in it's sidechain.
No emphasis, Duende doing it's thing like it always does, heavy compression of about 8dB to exaggerate the effect.
Pre- and post-emphasis used. Low shelf set to -16dB at 40hz with a Q of 0.2
Notice how the compressor doesn't really touch the bass in the latter example but signal integrity/frequency response hasn't really changed except for what the compressor does.

I haven't used the PSP SSL emu (I'm happy with The Glue), and I'm with you: was never a fan of Old Timer. That said, from what I've seen, Old Timer is great when it comes to not-aliasing. I'd be surprised if the BussComp were any different. TDR FB II Compressor is really good. However, more for transparent compression, mastering or buss one. I like to hear more "mojo" on the tracks and PSP is right about there for me.
