does anyone know of a desptop rx2 player ? something you can just audition rex files in via drag'n'drop (the same way you can use mediaplayer to 'audition' wavs)

cheers :)

If you're using Mac OSX; AudioFinder works great for doing that.

find a plugin that does it (I'd use Dropzone, but you only get that with Sonar) and run it inside VSThost.

Might be a bit much for just listening to rx2 files, but I know UVI Workstation supports them (and it's free).

Use the built-in file browser to load the folder containing them and play. I can't remember if it'll preview them on click or if you have to load them first.

This: http://www.ryaudio.com/ supports the following formats:

AIFF, FLAC, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, ReCycle (.rcy, .rex, .rx2), WAV, WMA

If you haven't got a plugin that supports REX files like whyterabbyt's suggestion which is the cheapest way to go/great call I agree. Then sample librarian might be worth trying? 30 days full trial and if you like it 30 euros is the price which seems reasonable :) Hope that helps

thanks Dean, that looks interesting. I play rex files either in Geist (where I can totally mess with them) or drop them straight on an audio track in Cubase, so using rex's is no problem. I just wanted a simple desktop player, but i've been looking for a good sample browser program forever.

Just tried to buy this software. Seems a bit odd asks for to much personal info for a paypal transaction - on closer inspection it goes through PayProGlobal. Googling them and 'scam' is a bit worrying.

oh well,..

Ah I am sorry & apologize Sarah, I hate it when I recommend something and it turns out to be no good :/
So it would of been ideal except for them being potential scam artists?
I susspose only other thing that could be done is contacting them  Shame as it seems like a good product at a good price.

Have you tried/heard of this one? It might be worth a look:

Its been MAC only for awhile but now supports Windows :)
I do not know of any audio player which supports (even via an add-on such as foobar2000's components) REX/REX2 playback, Be a good format for someone to write a component add-on for foobar2000 actually

Anyway thats me out of ideas, All the best

You could run UniversalPatchFinder in Savihost, both of which are free.
