Ok guys I promised a video of My Waldorf Blofeld and here it is. I recorded the audio seperately and the imported inside the video for extra quality. I can also upload the audio only if you wish.

What kind of Midi keyboard is best to use with Blofeld?

Can the midi keyboard get power from Blofeld, or must the midi keyboard be conntected to a power source to work?

Your question might get missed in this five-years-dead thread. Would you like me to split it into a thread of its own? You can choose an appropriate thread subject line once it's been split. You can keep it here if you like, but I wouldn't be surprised if other posters miss it and start replying to very old posts instead.

I've never heard of a MIDI keyboard that is powered by a synth through a MIDI connection.
Any MIDI keyboard will work with the Blofeld the same as it would with any other synth...

Some Novation stuff runs on batteries. My SL25 does ...

OK, so that means I can't use a Akai MPK Mini or Korg NanoKey with Blofeld?

When I use those with a computer, those midi controllers take their power from the USB, they got no separate power source.

AFAIK battery power is the only way if you don't want to use a computer.

If your keyboard has an actual MIDI port on it (fast becomming a thing of the past it seems), then you can power it through USB (directly from the wall, not from a computer) and use the MIDI port to, you know.....

Unfortunately only USB out on the tiniest ones. I got a bigger one with midi port. But it would be so great to have been able to control Blofeld with something like Nanokey or LPK25, it would all fit in my record bag

had one for a while and sold it - just found it too difficult to program, i prefer my Q ;)

It got a normal MIDI port so the MIDI controller needs to have a power connection too. The USB port is only for communication with a computer.

The USB at the Blofeld is an USB type B connection while for e.g. USB controllers and USB drives you need an USB type A conection.

Do you know one synth that has that ability? The Blofeld just has a built-in midi interface, like most recent synths have.

I prefer the interface of my Q, obviously, but I love the more diverse range of sounds I can get from my Blofeld. I actually find it surprisingly pleasant to program, given the limited number of controls.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Why can't you use a powered USB hub in between a nano key and the blofeld?

I use a powered USB hub between my MS20 iC controller (it only has USB midi) and my ipad. The ipad doesn't have enough power to power up USB controllers, but a powered hub in between solves the issues.

Because the iPad (with CCK) is like a computer, while the Blofeld is a synth.
My iPad is docked in an IO Dock (so built-in midi interface) and you can't connect any usb controller via its USB (A) port.
You can't connect usb controllers to the PC side of an M-Audio Midisport either ;)
