Why can't you use a powered USB hub in between a nano key and the blofeld?

I use a powered USB hub between my MS20 iC controller (it only has USB midi) and my ipad. The ipad doesn't have enough power to power up USB controllers, but a powered hub in between solves the issues.

Because the nanokey cannot connect to a synth without a computer that has a MIDI interface in the middle- all the MIDI from the keyboard comes out the USB port, there is no way to get MIDI into the Blofeld.

Gonna say it again: MIDI controllers without actual 5 pin MIDI ports = FAIL!

I wouldn't call it "Fail" - Only if you want those midi ports...
Someone who just uses a Midi controller through a DAW (many people), often has no need for 'classic' midi ports.

If your keyboard has an actual MIDI port on it (fast becomming a thing of the past it seems), then you can power it through USB (directly from the wall, not from a computer) and use the MIDI port to, you know.....

Unfortunately only USB out on the tiniest ones. I got a bigger one with midi port. But it would be so great to have been able to control Blofeld with something like Nanokey or LPK25, it would all fit in my record bag

Do you know one synth that has that ability? The Blofeld just has a built-in midi interface, like most recent synths have.

AFAIK you could connect e.g. a NanoPAD to the Korg Kronos workstation. Somehow the Kronos is a special kind of computer.

It got the necessary USB type A ports for that (Blofeld got type B USB which works only for MIDI data transmission with a computer):

I don't think it works that way.
I have the M3, with the same arrangement of USB ports on the back, and I thought the type A are only for a USB stick- have you heard differently?

Of course, if they had a Kronos, the whole issue would be moot-MIDI cable from Kronos to Blofeld, problem solved.

I got a Motif ES 7 and the USB port is for an USB stick only too.

Anyway with the Kronos it seems to work. That picture above is from the official website. Maybe it only works for Korg devices like the Nano series, not sure about others.
